Can anyone help me figure out why my JavaScript isn't working? When I click on one of the smiley faces to ad to my posts, nothing happens. In Fact, none of the HTML links are working. If I want to bold or insert a URL, I have to do it the manual way...

This really sucks, I've already uninstalled then reinstalled Java from www.java.com and it didn't make a difference. I e-mailed their customer service center 3 times in the last week and they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Please help if you can. Thanks...

You are contacting the wrong people Deej. Javascript and java are 2 totally different programming languages.

Javascript is used for client side programming of web browsers, someone tried to pitch using it server side but I dont think that ever went far.
java is more of a general purpose language and while your browser will handle java applets using a java plugin. I don't think there are any java applets on this site at all

Anyway the problem resides in the way your web browser is configured. You have to check your browser configuration
if your using IE
tools -> internet options (or some such trash) and then dig around looking for security settings and javascript settings
your security settings are too tight to allow javascript or you may have javascript disabled entirely

Fi your using mozilla or netscape its
Edit -> Preferences and then dig around as mentioned above

Do what dash says and also make sure any popup blockers/ privacy/security programs arent the cause. Close them all and see if it works then after you restart your computer.

Some of these programs dig into the api and intercept certain things to keep your system under control from javascript based evils :)

So connect to file URL codebase is not connected, but when I click on the "Edit Permissions" tab, everything is "enabled". So why aren't the URL codes permitted? Could that be the reason I'm not able to use javascript links such as the smiley faces here on Planet Think Tanks?

Bolo, as you can see, I have Stop Zilla, pop up stopper (it's the "SZ") I disabled it and rebooted my computer. That didn't make a difference. I've been using Stop Zilla for almost 2 years now and have never had a problem with them before. I once got a little bug which would disable it automatically and allow popups, but is wasn't anything that my McAfee couldn't handle.

I don't get it, I thought I might have a virus which is preventing javascript, but I ran McAfee Virus Scan, Trojan Finder, Ad-Aware, HijackThis, and CWShredder and nothing was detected. PLEASE HELP :( *manually inputed smiley

By the way, my security settings were on Medum, so I changed them to Medum Low, clicked apply then okay. Wen't back to my security screen in Internet Options and they were back to Medum. Weird huh... Why might that be?

DEEJ,
I'm using a Mac and the smilies didn't show for me in the edit box either. All 6 smilies that I clicked on showed up in the post after I clicked submit though.

Your using IE?

Set everything to the default level. Then shut off EVERYTHING ELSE...mcafee, stopzilla, etc

Then see if it works and go from there

Thanks Bolo, but I fixed it XD
My IT rep at Cox Comunications (My ISP) helped me determine that it was a windows issue.

Turns out that Windows XP Service Pack 2 is more trouble than it's worth. So I uninstalled it and and reinstalled service pack 1. Problem solved XD XD XD
