Forums Index >> General >> I'm fed up with my PC...MAC MINI!!!

Page : <1> :

I am quite sick and tired of being forced to play TT on my PC, because it's the only fast computer in the house (cheap parents :P ). So I am selling my oldish Grape iMac with Bryce 5, Poser 5, Photoshop 7, Ableton Live 4, GarageBand, 433MHz CPU, 80gig HD, and 384 RAM on it (of course deleting my files first, but leaving those programs). I'm expecting it to go for $350.00 on eBay, or if any of u folks want it ;). How much do you think that will go for? 8o
When I sell it, I am going to get a mac mini for $800.00 (give or take a few bucks and tax). That's including the educational discount I'm so luckily getting from my dad, who works at a university XD , because I don't think that a 12 year old would be elegible... :(

From a newly enthusiastic,
Niko-ST-!!!!!

P.S.-- Ty Memphizzle for inspiring me to get a new computer :P

WOOT!! Preach it brother niko!!
The ed. Discount rocks. My wife works at a university, so we got the ed. Discount as well.
I thought about the mac mini as well but wanted something more portable, not that the little thing isn't portable, but you know what I mean. I have some family who invested in the mac mini and they absolutely love it.
And another one turns to the light side.

Hey Niko... Do you own all of those programs?

Monday, June 13, 2005 at 10:04:00 PM

Yes, I own all those programs, most of them were gifts from an animating wiz, I'm still learning poser 5 :P (is hard, but cool and fun). U can see what I do at: www.nikogecko.co.nr. It's not like I'm loosing anything, because they're all on CDs, and OOPS, I forgot to list Ableton Live 4, and GarageBand, which I make music in. :)

PS-- it's not like I'm a PC person, Memphis, I never liked it from the beginning ;) , the one I have is a gift :P (note I had the iMac) XD

Go Niko!

I'm in line for a mini too, it's just not top priority yet.

Pretty generous neighbor, that's close to $1000.00 worth of software - single license.

I might be next! What do you people recommend ($1200 budget, need monitor, AirPort card for a Belkin Wireless Access Port, and a decent OS (10.3 or later).)? I'm considering a preowned.

If you have a PC now, and like the monitor/keyboard, get a mini. You can use the old keyboard/monitor on it.

$499 for the base model with full price. If you can get an educational discount, it's less. You can upgrade to faster models and bigger hard drive, too.

Meh. I'm fine with my $1500+ PC. Works nice tweaked.

I have a Mac Mini and I like it. I found that booting off an external firewire drive speeds up disk performance a bit. I got one with OS X 10.3 installed and then sent for 10.4 for $10. So I got Tiger and the latest iApps (worth $150) for my tower and a 1.25 ghz Mac Mini with Panther for $350.

Go for it. Even a G3 will work fine. That's what I got. :P

I'm getting one with higher stuff, for my music and animation.......and ThinkTanks :P (luckily my parents'll split what I can't pay for :P , about $400.00). So here's the specs (I've already decided XD ).

Hard Drive: 80gig Ultra ATI drive.
Processor: 1.42GHz.
RAM: 512.
Mac OS X Tiger - U.S. English
Internal Bluetooth + AirPort Extreme Card
4x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)

$803.00

@Date Man- if the software's worth around $1000.00 not used, do you think I could be selling my iMac for more? (The more
the merrier %) :) )

Niko

PS-- I'm getting a keyboard with an external trackpad built in (for TT XD )!: link

@ appleyard-

I use an eMac with basically the same specs, and it really flies along. Nice machines.

"if the software's worth around $1000.00 not used, do you think I could be selling my iMac for more?"

Actually, the problem here is with pirated software. If you'll continue to use it you shouldn't leave copies of it on your iMac - the problem actually started for you with your "generous" neighbor giving you copies.
