Would it be possible 2 make ammo&health bars?

Ex: on most games, theres a meter that displays health, & in some cases, ammo.

I was wondering if that would be possible.

Well, there already is a SORT of health bar. The smoke coming out of your tank, but you're right, it would be pretty cool to have those. :)

Only lethal on days that end with "Y"

I always thought that would be a good feature also, like have them under the radar so they are out of the way. Great idea..

Saturday, August 05, 2006 at 12:12:08 PM

Me and art have thought of this already....
We have come to the conclusion that it is not possible...
TT is missing important things in order to do this

Saturday, August 05, 2006 at 12:55:38 PM

Is there anyway to attach it to the smoke, as the smoke gets more the bar goes down. There has to be some script or what ever to tell the tank to smoke.
I know not a thing about this stuff so if that sounded stupid just ignore it. War

No, that is an intelligent assessment of the problem at hand GQ... Perfectly fine
The thing is... Health bars are gui, gui is client side...
The smoke you see is server side...

Well, I hope, but I'm not any extreme scripter, so I wont be able to invent it.

So the problem is not TT's limited GUI funtionality, but the client/server-side issue?

EDIT: Wait, what about the wingman timer? Isn't the game timer server-side? And the time is obviously displayed client-side.

Wingman exploits a function that every TT game has...

There is no function to grab your own health from the server as a client, if that makes sense...

Maybe try getDamageValue();

[edit]nvm, that doesn't work

There is, of course, a client sided code that sets the number of smoke coming from your tank... But the problem is, it's engine-based (C++)

Too bad a healt bar cant be made :[ it will be the coolest thing

Sunday, August 06, 2006 at 5:19:14 AM

What if you had a health bar that calculated how many times you got hit? And the more times you got hit the more it would go down? Is that possible?

Sunday, August 06, 2006 at 8:31:29 AM

The health and ammo bars were also intentianlly left out, because in development it was found that the game was more fun without them. It gives you more of a flying by the seat of your pants type of feeling. Heh.

^^That would work in servers using original settings (SW?). But when you it wouldn't work when the hit is set very high, or very low

Monday, August 07, 2006 at 7:05:53 AM

^^^^^
No way to know when you get hit, and if you did, it'd be server side...

Monday, August 07, 2006 at 7:09:22 AM

I know a game that has it... It's not that... The C++ code for those things was REMOVED... There's NO way to do it on TT

Tuesday, August 08, 2006 at 9:21:59 AM

Lol, it semt to be an original idea

QUOTE: game/client/prefs.cs
$pref::Tank::healthMeterTime = "500";

The bars would be awesome so that the heavy tanks could tell when they were dying and get their butt in gear!!! :)

Tuesday, August 08, 2006 at 11:54:38 PM

^^ I know... Other TGE games also have that pref... It's just something BT didn't remove

Wednesday, August 09, 2006 at 6:14:01 AM

On GG I saw a script for it. Need to look again forggotan where it was. :S

Wednesday, August 09, 2006 at 7:06:26 AM

Destroyer, get this: TT doesn't have the engine code needed for it... Only way to add it is by editing the.exe wich is illegal if you're not Bravetree, and it's also hard as hell... So, THERE'S NO WAY TO DO THIS, LIKE THERES NO WAY FOR WATER AND WHATEVER!

Wednesday, August 09, 2006 at 10:04:58 AM

Art Crazy get this: I SAW A SCRIPT FOR IT.

Your play XD :)

my blaster will destroy u!

Wednesday, August 09, 2006 at 12:54:23 PM

^ Good... You saw one...
Did it work? How come you can't find it now?
Was the water moving?

Art is saying TT has not compiled the code in order to create or render water. It is not something we can add without getting involved with out wonderful friends... The feds.
So either it was a fake "script" or someone is doing something illegal...

I kinda agree. But why didn't BraveTree have WATER?? A lot of games have water.

***!!! I know a game that has ammo & health bars! I have it! I'll check the code! BUT: Its Battlefield1942, and they definitly had a different engine. !!!***

@Destroyer
Look, just get this. In TGE games you CAN have health/ammo bars... Now... In TT? NO! The code other TGE games use was removed and without doing something illegal, we can't add it back... Only Bravetree can!

@ultimated
You wont get any help from that game, it's a completely different thing

Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 5:07:39 AM

Is there even a way to get this in script on the server side? Heh.

@ultim: From what I understand, there is no water on the planets on which ThinkTanks have landed. Had there been, I'm sure it would have been added. ;)

Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 9:21:33 AM

^ Nope, no way to do it serverside or client side... The engine code for both got removed :(

Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 9:36:47 AM

I agree with 56k, the game is better without those bars anyway. The reason TT is fun is because it's so simple.

Friday, August 11, 2006 at 9:42:37 AM

^ yea, if you knew what your health was before you start smoking or knew when you were about to run out of ammo it would be pointless because thats where the fun comes in...

Ya,............................
battlefield is WAY different too.
