My FC4 install bit the dust and I really don't feel like dealing with it and it's RPM dependency problems again. I would much rather compile apps myself.

The main use of this machine would be gaming. I prefer GNOME too so it would be nice if it came with it.

I really like Ubuntu
It installs from 1 cd
Took a total of 15 minutes and recognized all my hardware
Now if only there was a good voice chat app..........and Divx
I would get rid of windows alltogether

^ Skype and Divx for Linux.

I am considering the following: Gentoo, Mandriva, Xandros, Ubuntu, Slackware and SuSE.

Damn Small!!! I'm installing a version of Ubuntu with KDE instead of GNOME called Kubuntu.

Well if you like Gnome the I would have to say Ubuntu. If using Ubuntu I would also recommend using the Automatix installer as well http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=80295 (there is one for kubuntu too, if you look at thread.) Ubuntu does a very light install, this gives you a lot more options. I have been very happy using using kubuntu/ubuntu.

I also am installing the new Suse beta, that does also offer a gnome option as well. This beta has a lot of the new "toys" to play with. Like Xen, apach2 and a lot of other things. I have always been impressed with suse, my only gripe is that they used to have a very bloated install (installs to many apps). With the latest version you can pick and choose a bit more.

I downloaded Gentoo and thankfully it comes with GNOME.

Thanks anyway, I have tried Ubuntu before and I liked it, but Gentoo looks good too.

I found a GUI installer for Gentoo. The installation is extremely hard otherwise.
