Crazy man, I had one come down on my house in Eastern Oregon when I was in High School. It was only a Class 1 but it brought down all our our windbreak trees (over 80 with 4 on top of the house) and smashed up the place good. I ended up living in a RV for several months as the repairs where made.
Luckily I was several miles away but I could still see it come down. My dad was the only one at home and once he saw the trees coming down he ran to the center of the house and sat next the the stone fireplace.
I'll be waiting for the movie. You have your camcorder right?

I saw THIS ONE first hand. The damage to the fields was unreal. One of my parishoners at the time lost 15 cattle due to that tornado. One had a 2x4 in her stomach that was absolutely nasty. The cornfields looked like someone had taken a giant razor and zigzagged through the fields. Barbed wire fences were spun around so fast that the barbs were no longer on them. The absolute power of these things is unimaginable and having seen them with my own eyes, they are mesmerizing, but then reality of what tornados can do hits, and I get myself downstairs.
If this thing bumps up to warning and is near you, get your glimpse and then head downstairs. It may be nice to put on your list, you just don't want it to be the last thing on your list.
Oh yea tornados. I have seen a couple roaming the plains and the south east over the last few years. Also seen a few waterspouts. Good thing I never get too close to those.

We get tornado warnings all the time through this area (Kansas City) - occasionally they touch down. None have done so in my area yet in the 20 years I've lived in this area.
Maybe they don't like me? Perhaps I put out a high-pressure zone that deflects them?
Well, that was a bust. It rained, but not that hard, so there wasn't even a chance to say, "Could this be it?" Heck, it wasn't even a good thunderstorm which can be a lot of fun in themselves. And I was so looking forward to posting that pic of me with a Cat-5 in the background. :D
Cat-5
Cat's are for hurricanes such as Cat 1, cat 2, cat 3, cat 4, cat 5
F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4, F-5 are for tornados. Which one is it hurricane in the background or a tornado? ;)

Rabban: still camping on the roof? XD
^heh :)
Tomorrow I'm putting a countertop into a house that's replacing the one that got sucked off its foundation in Stratford, Iowa by an F3 in November. The homeowner said everything happened very quickly and her husband almost didn't get into the house because air pressure held the door closed. He finally got in and to the basement only to have the entire house sucked away from above him seconds later.
I saw the tornado go by from about 2 miles away. I'll never forget the funky green sky and "roiling" clouds with short intra-cloud lightning. It was sun-shiny and calm in the other direction. Surreal is the best description I can give the experience.
Lol^
When my mom was a kid in North Dakota they watched a tornado destroy their barn as they drove away. Later they noticed hay stuck in telephone pole like darts.
Tornado watch bla bla, typical for you guys, but in california it never happens. But, they did issue a Sever Thunderstorm Watch for Contra Costa county, thats where I live...

Just heard from the little woman that there's a tornado watch in effect until 5pm. Just checked weather.com to confirm and I'm kinda excited about it. Yes, I'm an idiot, but I've always had a fascination with the twisters ever since The Wizard of Oz . Though rare in WV, my mother-in-law experienced one when she was a child (and that's where the brain damage originated), so it could happen. While it is sunny, the wind is kicking up, it will be an interesting day in the least. Seeing one would be one more check on my things to do in my lifetime.
