Since some of you heard from Duffer that I'd been in a car accident, I figured I'd post an update.

The backstory: On my way home from work monday night, a drunk driver ran a red light at the same time as I was going though that same intersection at about 30mph. The front left of my Honda plowed into the front right of his minivan and we slid off the road, me into a parked car in a parking lot and him into the traffic light pole. His injuries were much worse than mine. He was taken from the scene in the ambulence with a broken nose, while I wandered around taking pictures with my cell phone.

I went to the hospital the next day to get checked out. Nothing broken, but I've got a whole lot of bruises. I think somehow a squirrel got embedded in my shin. The doctor says it's just swelling and that keeping it up and putting ice on it will make it go away, but I'm not sure I believe him. The swelling in my nose has gone down, and the black eye is giving me that sheik supermodel look. And I'm getting better and better at hobbling around the house. So, I'm doing fairly well considering.

My car on the other hand has seen better days:

It's one of those Thanksgivings where I'm just thankful to still be around. :)

Holy F...that looks horrible! Glad to hear you're okay...wow. Hopefully this gives you a "free pass" to avoid all other massive car wrecks.

Phew...I'm sure the world would be worse off without you 56...wow...

Did you get the flag from him?

Glad to hear your 'relatively' OK. Now, get your ass to a bar and tell the ladies you were in a fight defending the honor of some ugly woman.

Switch to Geico. 15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance!
I'm just glad you're alive and unscathed.

Oh my god! This is terrible! Your car is completely ruined! XD

Glad to see your OK, 56k. Someone up there must like you

Cars can be replaced. My mom says you lucky to be alive :) Her sister died from a drunk passing on a hill :[

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Truely could have been quite the different story. Glad to see your in good condition.

Keep'em WIDE OPEN...

If I did my math right you were 91 ms away from taking a minivan in the driver's door. Sometimes it's good to be laggy. Glad to hear you're expected to recover fully.

Friday, November 25, 2005 at 10:03:48 AM

Glad you're okay.

Shocker that the drunk was in a minivan.

At some point I plan on doing a study that correlates a persons level of idiocy with the car they drive. All of us at some point each week while on the road says this, "That idiot in the minivan just cut across two lanes of traffic and almost hit us." This is a fact more constant than gravity.

If you're offended by the possibility of this study coming to fruition you'd better go take a look and see what's parked in your garage.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

^ I always, always, always "fear the van." The worst are the brand new white ones. Rentals. Fear them.
Glad you okay dude. Good thing you're harder than your honda.

@56K,

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I guess there is a lesson to be learned from all of this. If you are going out this XMAS holidays, either get a designated driver or make sure you cab it home.

Nothing worse than people taking unnecessary risks after they have been drinking all night long. I once lost a friend because he was a blind as a bat, and drove straight into a pole. Reflexes become slower, yet we all think we can drive!!!

Thanks for the well wishes all. If the timing was a little different this would be a very different message. As BC said, sometimes it's good to be laggy. :)

@44 & Racer: It was one of those weird laggy collisions where the scrum just flew off to the side and nobody ended up with it. I think the cops picked it up later and ran it into the goal for a quick freebie.

OMG 56k! Man that is so scary! Glad you will be OK. Looks like it could have easily been much worse!

I had a similar thing happen to me few years ago. Hit by a drunk driver in a stolen car when he ran a red light.

I wish you the best in your recovery!

56k- that's gotta hurt worse than losing the flag just as you were about to slide into the goal.

Take care, and have a quick recovery. I'm glad you weren't seriously injured, but the post accident pain really isn't fair. You're on you way home, and some foo ruins your day... But, GIVE THANKS!

Yow, my heart skips a beat thinking about it.
Well that would be 8 lives left?
Glad you are still hobbling Lagger.
My family, me and my Honda have you in our thoughts and prayers.

56, You probably would have been best off by BM his ass!! Put a few clips in 'em before he hit the dang light. So glad to hear you are alright. I heard about from the Old Duffer while scrumming the other night. You definately have many things to be thankful for buddy!!! ;)

Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 6:23:32 AM

Heh, I drive a 91 blue honda civic too. :[

Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 2:01:47 PM

I guess the collision mesh didn't save you on that one. I think your door is clipping right through the road there.

Get well soon, and scratch the next van you see just in case.

@56k, as long as you're looking for a new ride you might want to think about GM's new AllAirBag™ line. They even have a sporty convertible! :)

...and don't forget about computer crashes.

KBC!

Hey, I got a better option. 56k could now get that Hummer that he has always wanted! Just let med pay on his auto insurance pay the deductible on the health insurance...

Wait, he's a poor programmer!

OK, still let med pay on the auto insurance handle things. Then he can make a pitiful face to the other driver's insurance company and bide his time until they think they are going to pay an enormous settlement. Then he can say he'll settle for a Hummer and they're off easy.

Wait, better make it a hybrid.

PS: Insurance companies hire trolls. Don't be nice, 56. Polite, maybe.

"I would like the hybrid in black, chrome wheels, and sun roof...Have a nice day!"

Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 12:08:33 PM

Maybe now you can afford that driver's side door you've always wanted. I noticed the old Honda didn't have one. %)

Anyway, glad to hear you're doing OK, but I would love to hear more about that squirrel you mentioned.
