Heh,
I've played the Bridge and Hearts games from FreeVerse...
Ummmm Burned out Ho?
Doesnt look interesting..
Eagle
The burn marks stop right around me waste.
Checken zee outen zee this game so I won't be tryin' it meself I say.
Freeverse makes some wacky and silly cartoonish games. Then again, we're all playing a cartoonish tank game, sooo… 8o
Just yesterday they released a new, violent (<--unusual for them) game called Kill Monty. The point of the game is, uh, just kill wave after wave after wave of baddies. Modeled after Kill Bill. Only wave 1 is easy, After that it gets stupid hard, or maybe I'm just getting old.
I've also played their Wingnuts, Temporal Navigator game for a nice silly diversion.
This MA game looks like there's more to it than there appears. The reviews on IMG are pretty glowing.
I may have to throw down some cash for it tonight. The demo is locked into easy mode and online action is disabled. I'm itchy...
I'll try it later tonight Ho. Already miss allotted time at work :)
BTW, is it a sign of TT burnout when you start wondering who the hell it is who just announced retirement on the boards?
If so I'm there...
{WalMart free for over 24 months!}
Indeed. You've been playing this game for almost 2 years, and people you've never heard of are hanging it up.
What who?
Kinda looks like Total Annihilation. There's a game I haven't played in ages... Might have to check it out.
Hold your farewell speech's there Tal (and everyone for that matter).
A note of interest to you doddering ol' vets -
Saw Tank Dork last night!!!
He sends his greetings to all that know him.
He was going to d-load MM's mods at Rx's so he could join some evening scrum.
Hurricane Ivan blasted him out of his orbit (heh, that and some other matters :),
zapped his computer.
He was wondering where his championship ring was for his invaluable contributions last season as part of the CereBros Locos.
Lol.
They all come back....
There were rings?
Aye, I'm not going anywhere.
I have learned the foolishness of such statements :).
Looking forward to see yee ol' partner in crime, good show baba.
MP, it's like a table top wargame (I guess), but minimal resource management. TTish in a way, as far as levels of complexity go.
Wonder what grandmaster sluggy thinks...
Dude, it's pretty fun. I might have to drop some bones to get the full version as well! I thought it was too easy until I played the total war (world war?) scenerio and got my butt kicked!
Nice find dude
Aye! Even BOLO likes it, the horra....
Was someone able to play World War or the prior one in the demo?

Oooooooo. Think I burned out on these type of games playing hours of AOE and warcraft though.
Funny you mention it....but my farewell speech is not far off...i need some sort of social online game to replace TT....havent found one yet. This game is too much RPG.
I need ongoing nonstop spur of the moment killing
B
When you find one, let me know...i've played my last TT game.
1. Need some sort of social online game...
2. I need ongoing nonstop spur of the moment killing
. Hilarious.
I think I am going to throw down the quid for this thing. Is anyone else? I wish I could see how active/social the online scene is.
Global Domination Tactics; sounds like ho to me.
Tally: I'll "Throw Down The quid" if you supply "the quid" :)

I'm going to to give this a run through tonight to see if I likes it or not. Looks interesting from the "box", but I shall see.
From a post on their PTT-esque site:
The following is a list of why I like MA. Developers don't always here the good stuff about their products:
- There is no economic development, yet economics comes into play. Too many strategy games force the player to waste too much time and effort on economic developement. I don't mind a little bit of that sort of thing, but more than 10% of play time is too much, IMO. I play strategy/wargames for the war part.
- There is (usually) combat in the first turn of the game and no one is accused of "tank rushing". In RTS games, it seems like some people consider it to be bad form to not give them time to get their defenses up. In MA, it is assumed that the PL player will attack immediately and the FNU player better set up some defenses.
- Multiplayer is not played in real time. I'm a busy guy. Work, familly, taking care of my house, etc all take up time. Other than in the middle of the night when everyone else is sleeping, I simply don't have an hour+ to sit down and play a game on the internet in a head-to-head format. So playing a turn, sending it off and forgetting about it until my opponent plays his turn works well for people like me. I really like some RTSs (Rise of Nations and Homeworld 2 are also on my computer right now) but I've never played them online because of this.
- The game isn't really simple...it's elegant. Like Chess. A lot of wargames (particularly turn based wargames) try so hard to model the real world that they become extremely complicated. One game I had that I liked a lot was The Operational Art of War. It was a good game with a simple interface, but its unit and combat model were rather complex. So I often had no idea what my chances of success were in a given battle or how to determine it. In MA, it is easy.
- There is no way to cheat in multiplayer. One of the banes of turn based games was the ability of players to open their turn, play it out to see what would happen and/or look at their opponents stuff then replay it again to get better results. In MA, with no Fog of War and no random events there is no way to cheat. Replaying is encouraged.
- Resources eventually run out. Stalemates can't last long.
All is not rosy, however. I know MA:PR is in the late phases of developement, so I don't expect any of this to be implemented. I'm just rambling in hopes of getting some of these ideas into the heads of people for the future.
- The game seems a bit unstable. Occasionally I lose my mouse pointer and have to save the game. Sometimes the game just exits with no warning. In Hot Seat mode, the units seem to stop drawing. Those are all bugs, of course. I'm a software developer and I know that bugs happen...
- It would be nice if each side had some truly unique units.
- More factions and more than two players in multiplayer would be good (but players would have to be really good at getting their turns done or games would take months to play).
- Some economic developement would be good...Maybe allowing players to divert some resources to "growing" their economys. Also it should be possible to attack enemy economic resources to reduce enemy resouce output (of course, invading an enemy territory does this).
Here is a suggestion: Back in the mid 90's there was a shareware game called Stars!. It was a great multiplayer strategy game (except economic management got a bit too complicated late in the game). One of the things that really made it work was that it was a "Simultaneous" turn game. The way it worked was this: At the start of the game, each player (up to 8 players) would _each_ get a turn file from the server. Each player would open that file, issue orders for their empires, then submit their turn files back to the server. Once the server had all turns (or after some set amount of time) it would calculate the results of all the orders given - it would move units, resolve combat, deploy new units, generate resources, etc - then send new turn files to all the players. Repeat.
The great thing about this was that you could have a large number of players in the game and still play turns at a relatively quick pace. Typically we'd play with 4 or 5 players and set a time limit of 3 days for turns. People would usually play their turns within 24 hours. In between turns players would e-mail each other to conduct diplomacy or just taunt each other. With 4 or 5 players in traditional turn based games (like Warlords III, for instance), it would usually take as long as a week to play a single turn! More often than not, games would just end after only a couple turns.
I'm not suggesting this for MA. Obviously MA is a bit too simple for this and it probably requires a different combat model. But if you're a developer and reading this, keep it in mind for future games, especially if you are trying to think of ways to have more than 2 players.
I think MA has really hit on something here and with the right marketing MA:PR could be a really popular game (at least among wargamers). Because of its great graphice and intuitive UI, it could draw in some of the traditional RTS crowd.
T ho, I'm in for giving it a try...havent played the demo...will do so tonight. Is there a forum we can over-run?
Funny you should ask.

A quick glance tells me a few things:
The has something like a play-by-mail option, which I think is hot.
bee, they have 882 registered users, compared to our 1297.

I'm going to check this out. I'd like to get a game that I can play here and there with some people I know. TT is the only game I have and before that it was Allied Assault. That said, I know nothing about gaming and would like to join some folks in a new game.
If this one doesn't pass the test I'm considering getting Medal of Honor Warchest or Unreal Tournament 2004. I know nothing at all about the UT2004 game but a couple of us have been talking about getting a new mental masturbation game at the same time. Any interest or knowledge of these two games would be greatly appreciated.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
Get UT2004 for sure; sweet maps, sweet vehicles, wicked guns, etc. Better than Halo even. Online play is nice too but doesn't give you much of a community sense. Be prepared to buy yourself a new computer if you don't have a g5, though. Or whatever the windoze equivalent is.
(medal of honor is weak don't get it)
Btw anyone tried Homeworld 2? I bought it recently and would like to hear what anyone thinks about it. Don't criticize the online play I've heard that and agree with all of it...
I have tried the demo, but couldn't get past the "looking through a window" feeling in that hands-off way. Am I missing something?
I have been playing the demo for Massive Assualt. It's not my type of game but it is a nice diversion. I have been on a little bit of quest to find another game. I love TT and all, just a little burned out on it. So far the games that I have found and I really like are UT2004 and Tribes2 (which is also made with Torque, but I think is only available for pc). I hear that a few of the Star Wars games are cool too. I'll be cheking those out soon to. Even though it looks like UT2004 may get my money. The only hesitation that I have with throwing it down is that UT2005 will be out the next week. Does anyone know when UT2005 may come out?
Tried the MA demo. It was decent. My concern would be the online play. SInce it is turned base you'd be sittling their idle for a long time while waiting for some putz to finish their move. You also have to figure that a lot of morons will just quit halfway through a game. I think I'll look into a game that puts you up against at least 10 or more people as in TT.
Ben, the regular game play for MOH stinks but the online play against 20 or more other people was a blast for me to play.

Rogue, I think there is a PBM flavor to it. Each game's turn length can be set by the players.
That makes sense. Once again, I'm pretty naive when it comes to video games.

Sorry gents, when I'm burned up, it will be on the experience. I'm not so much burned up on the game of TT but on the routine of wasting away in the office night after night playing a video game. It's not that I don't enjoy the game, I do, as most of you know from using voice I'm usually laughing and cracking jokes. The whole thing is pretty entertaining. It's just when the time comes for me I will probably just stop playing games because I'm tired of playing games in general, not specifically TT. From what I have seen over the past several weeks is people saying their looking for other games, their kind of burnt out, yet these same people are signed up or posted interest in some of the league threads like 2v2v2, TBM 5, or 2 on 2 scrum. I think in the next coming months people will find the weather is getting nicer and there will be a little less play during that time. I think this is healthy for most of us. It appears that many of us have jammed ourselves in the office or in front of the computer all winter long. I personally have decided to leave the Battlemode leagues as I have become less interested in BM'ing over the last year or so. BM, 2 scrum leagues, and modding have demanded quite a bit of time this winter. (Surprised I'm still married, LOL) I have just begun to start modding and I'm thinking that will keep me interested in TT in addition to becoming addicted to Scrum. I think there will be mediocre play throughout the summer and a strong return in the fall. That is unless many players actually do find a replacement for the game. I myself am not looking for a replacement for TT. I will play it to the end and that will be it. The end will be the end.
Maybe another year. Man, really stretching that $19.00.
P.S. See you tonight addicts!

I think I dig this game. It's a nice change of pace / counterpoint to TT, which I'm on the verge of of burning out on.
Here's a nice review or 2:
