I believe that if you are going to celebrate christmas you should respect the real purpose of the holiday.
I think people should just say 'HAPPY B-DAY JESUS!' because half of the peeps I know don't know what the heck its about. I mean even these folks accross the street say they dont believe in jesus or god but they celebrate it anyway so that they can have the exuse of getting presents and all.
If your gonna do it for the presents make it clear!!!!
Im honestly tired of my little nephews coming up to their father (my brother mike) and asking "why didn't I get as many presents as sissy?". Does anyone even care about jesus anymore? O no, its about ol' saint nick now, doesn't matter what jesus did 2000 years ago just because jesus won't give your snobby kids a present to keep their mouths shut for a couple days.

Maybe santa is a good idea for kids, but make it clear that he isnt real please!

You are talking about the kids. If you went to church you would know what Christmas was all about but you need to consider the fact that some people have to be at school or work and what not that gets in the way. Its there choice. I agree with you that people should be educated about this. Kids are kids. If you are so mad then take action!

Who says you're insane? I feel the same freakin' way. I mean, seriously, who can say it hasn't been blown out of proportion comercially when stores start flaunting "Christmas deals" before Thanks-freakin'-giving?

Monday, December 26, 2005 at 7:20:32 AM

Ja, Christmas isn't about saving money, it's about saving souls.

Monday, December 26, 2005 at 8:15:47 AM

Aye aztec, I feel the same way.

My thoughts -

Christmas is a time of the year where every one, good, evil, young, old, look forward too. In the honor of Christ, every Christion has a big celebration on the date, kids probably don't know what's going on at this time. They know nothing of Jesus yet, so the parents give them something else to beleive in. The kids know nothing of Christ yet, so they think that "Santa" is what all the fuss is about. Once they mature and learn why Christmas really is celebrated, I assure you there will be no more present envy.

Everyone, Christian, Jewish, atheist, Muslim, consumerist junkie, hardcore anticonsumerist to the end, social outcast... And my real name is Chris Cringle, but you can call me Santa Claus or Nick. (which makes no sense...)

Yea, the only problem with what you're saying is that no one really know when jesus was born. The day he was born is unclear and all documents containing proof have vanished.

Monday, December 26, 2005 at 11:43:25 AM

Big Show, you're right, no-one knows when Jesus (henceforth referred to as King Jeeb) was born, but the date is bacause of an OLD OLD OLD Celtic festival, which I forget the name of, that celebrated "the passing of the shortest day", and that the nights would start getting shorter and days would get longer. When the Christians (henceforth referred to as god-botherers) wanted to celebrate the day of King Jeeb's birth, they decided it easier to just say it was on the equivalent of Dec. 25th and abolish the Celtic festival, or just re-work it, I don't know which.

And if anyone wants to complain about how I named god-botherers and King Jeeb so, I am friends with many of these funny "Christian" people, and I am not prejudiced, I just want to abolish all religion, purely because of how many wars it has caused.

Santa is the worst idea for kids, especially little ones and poor ones.

Little: they find out Santa isn't real by some other kids and then they think your lying about god and they dont go to church because they didn't when they were little.

Poor: I'm the worst kid ever and I'm crap.

Join the santa haters club.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

Hey guys get educated. St Nicholaus was really a man in Germany in 1800's (?) who went out of his way with his own money to distribute gifts to poorer children in his time. THIS is where the legend of Santa Clause started. ;)

Talk about Irony,

Welp for those who don't know Jesus (Yeshua) was born sometiime in July or August. The Bible says an angel of the Lord came to Mary in the sixth Month, now just so you know the Jewish calendar and ours aint da same. Their 6th month would be something like our October, you can do the math. It was a pagan King and his name slips my mind I believe who set Christmas day to be on Dec 25th, so yup yer right it's not going to be a Spiritual thing unless you make it one because Dec 25 aint even close to the Birth Of Jesus. If I could close on this note tho, I don't think Jesus minds us remembering him on Dec 25th and the freedom and deliverance he bought, it's all about the heart. The only thing you can never hide from Him, you can hide it from yer family, yer friends, yer co-workers. But when it gets down to the nut cuttin, you aint ever gonna hide the heart from Him.

More irony in the thread title. The song "Here Comes Santa Claus" was originally written by Gene Autry and the last 2 verses have religious references in them. (Sincere appologies if this gets stuck in your head...)

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus Lane.

Vixen, Blitzen, all his reindeer
Pulling on the reins.
Bells are ringing, children singing,
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say a prayer,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Riding down Santa Claus Lane.

He's got a bag that's filled with toys
For boys and girls again.
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
What a beautiful sight.
Jump in bed and cover up your head,
Because Santa Claus comes tonight.

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Riding down Santa Claus Lane.

He doesn't care if you're a rich or poor boy,
He loves you just the same.
Santa knows that we're God's children,
That makes everything right.
Fill your hears with Christmas cheer,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

Well, here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Riding down Santa Claus Lane.

He'll come around when the chimes ring out
It's Christmas morn again.
Peace on Earth will come to all
If we just follow the light
Let's give thanks to the Lord above,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

Anyone want to talk about the 'Christmas spirit' that can transform a person from a might-as-well-be-dead scrooge to a person with new life?

I believe in this very much. I mean most of the people today think about what they are getting in christmas and sadly forget on what would they give . It's like a present fest on Christmas! They buy mostly everything. I am just sick of seeing people say rude things when they say, "Ha! I got a better present than you!" I mean, what is the big point they are getting acorss to? They are more whealthy?

Look back and look at yourself for a moment and say if you are fair or not. Are you fair on getting presents on Christmas? Being fair is very important in Christmas because you can see if you deserve it or not. Poor children are without toys or video games like TT.

Besides, what happened to the old saying in cartoon shows?

*Cartoon Shows* "Christmas is all about family and Jesus Christ"

*Real Life* "I got lots of presents!"

Not anymore.

Now its about being a good giver...

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

I overall agree with CUC.
This thread isn't really about what date jesus was born, who saint nick was, its about christmas being too comercial in a very bad way. The only reason parents are bringing up santa is so that their kids will be good and adults wont have to be watching over their backs all the time.
If it was about how good he was why not bring up any of jesus' deciples? And since people can't stick to the subject of jesus' birthday instead of giving to our fat snobby kids (meaning American kids) we should make God and Jesus happy for once and also give to the needy. And don't try and bring santey clause back to life please! Give your kids a scripture for their presents.

Christmas is a time of the year where every one, good, evil, young, old, look forward too. In the honor of Christ, every Christion has a big celebration on the date, kids probably don't know what's going on at this time. @tankster,
whats the matter with presenting jesus to kids when their young? I think its important for kids to see that if jesus didnt come we'd all be burning in hell right now...
Jesus did too much for us to just replace him with santa clause.

Ps: dont mean to jump on you, thx for your oppinion :)

^ Yeas is right, We should tell kids (Which iam 1) the real meaning of christmas not some fairy tale santa crap!

@all,
Tell them what really happened and why we calebrate it and why its called CHRISTmas !I mean Santas a great for little kids and it gives them something too look up too but some kids get too wrapped up in santa and crap and forget what really mattters! All they care about is gifts and such! I mena we should tell them about the guy who gave the biggest and best present too the world! JESUS! Who died for us! He gave us his life! And yet for christmas instead of thanking god for giving his life and dieing for us all we care about is gifts and oooo santa! All santa ever did is waste your parents money! And then your parents act like santa gave it too you! Lol. Anyway I think its alright too tell your kids about santa but you need too tell them what really happened. I mean seriously its really stupid how they wanna take Christ out of Christmas! Why dont they take SANTA OUT OF CHRISTMAS INSTEAD! Look all I have too say is, without Santa we can still have christmas but without christ we can never have christmas, why without christ christmas wouldnt exsist and niether would we!! Yall tell me what you want but that up there^ is the plain truth, and dont give me no lame excuses! B) Enough said XD
