OUCH!
Training a new demolition team member is tougher than I'd expect.
Hope it heals well. Take that hammer back, and keep it in the shed. (and don't reach in when the boy is swinging anymore)
I splattered a finger when I was in my teens. Hurt like heck. Hope you have good pain control.
Stick to the joystick Rabban! %) Hammers are too complex to handle! Perhaps you thought you were moderating, instead of renovating?
:o
^ is very funny! That has gotta HURT! Ive never been wacked with a hammer much less a sledge-hammer! We need a lot of pics... From angles 1-10. :P
Thinktanks: $20 New Mouse: $15 Winning an indy scrum game: Priceless
I feel you pain Rabban. I have broken fingers several times mostly playing sports. The first time I broke a finger was the worse though. I was in second grade at recess and the fat girl in my class caught me and sat on me. My hand was caught underneath of her wrong broke my finger in several places. I then went the rest of the day at school with a broken finger because my teacher ignored me when I told her. My mom took me to the doctor when I got home and he splinted it up. The good news was it was the middle finger on my right hand. Let's just say everytime I raised my hand in class for the next month I made a fist. XD
@ Destroyer - "Rhinothunder" was using a regular hammer (Thank God!).
@ V - Funny thing, but he busted my right, middle finger too. The nurse said that it would be an easy finger to show to people. Made me wonder what her backstory was. :S

Not what I would have thought. Rabban got hammered. :)
Rabby... Sorry to hear about the finger smash... I worked construction for a long time... Although I never broke a finger (two toes), I have done the mashed digits many times. Good on ya for not giving your kid an earful.
That said... I am left with no choice but to ask... Did God have a plan for you? ;)

(Gods Things to Do list:)
MY Plan for the Day....
1) Start with a nice Sunrise
2) Tweak the ocean temps just to see what kind of shenanigans occur.
3) Inspire the Archbishop to continue refining the "New Priest Background Check" policies.
4) Smash Rabby's Middle finger.
5) Micromanage every human being.
6) Answer more than 60 million prayers at the same time.
7) Work in mysterious ways for the other 200 million prayers that I could not fit into my schedule.
8) Throw a water stain on the side of a bridge that looks like mom and see if people notice.
9) Watch the American Idol finale.
10) TIVO the "Lost" Season Finale.

I had similar thing on exactly same location, thought, the hit had came to the top of the middle finger(nail), and no bones broke.
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
^^ heh TG, obviously yours only is the American God Division, an important department of Heaven Corp. (with some PR issues as I can see from your cynism) ;)
Although I think #4 should have been #3 in His priorities.
Did your son just give an excuse for the 3on3 tourney? That's not your trigger finger...
I expected the pics to be far more gruesome. How could you resist not closing your other fingers in the first pic?
If you're trying to kill yourself, maybe you should give the kid a hammer and take him skateboarding. :P :S
^ lol
EDIT: y were u hitting the side walk with a hammer
EDIT'S EDIT: also u look likt ur watching talkin boling pins in the background with a sport thing on its head if u look between the pointer and middle finger (2ed pic he posted)

^ yes, we're taking it up to plant grass. The side walk leads from the front porch to the highway, so we're not likely to ever use it.
@ Pedro - nice 20/20 hindsight there. 8o One reason my son feels so bad is that he saw my hand move into position, but was unable to think fast enough to stop himself or change the target area. He's just about 8, so now I can see that, but at the moment he was moving up with the hammer, so I thought he would stop.
@fishtank - only if necessary. ;)
Aha, not a good idea to give a 8 year old a hammer XD
Ive never broken anything in my body, ive fractured my right arm twice - stupid bones and ive internally bruised my left hand ( That hurts, and doesnt stop for quite a while - again stupid bones rubbing against skin causing more pain)
Hope your favourite finger gets better soon. Dont make a fist ;)
It's looks to me like your son was trying to wack off your freakishly long fingernails
. I really dont blame him dude. ;)

was also my first thought. :S
I love my randylion

^There's a serious lesson there. That's how the subconscious works. He was hammering and your hand became the focus... In TT if you look at or think about hitting a tree while driving, your subconscious will make it so. If you look at a pothole while riding a bike you'll ride through it every time. Etc.
Is your fingernail going to fall off? That would be kewl.
Shouldn't your nose be broke also? Amazing it was just the finger. XD
My dad made a similar mistake when I was a kid. In short, he was holding the nail, I missed.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Added the x-ray today.
After waiting for an hour, the specialist said that there wasn't anything else to do for it, but did give me a better brace. The pain should fade in 3 weeks.
@ A few - I don't think I made a mistake in giving my son a hammer. We were working on a project, spending time together and learning talking, all good things for fathers and sons to do. Once I'm better, we'll return to the same project, but we'll both be a little wiser. That's how life works, we learn by doing and I think I've taught my son a lot more than I might have expected through this little accident.

Sorry to hear about your mishap Rabby. Heal well.
Can I borrow your brace when you're done with it? It might help get my message across a little more clearly the next time some &*^@!# cuts me off on the 405 freeway.

The other day my son and I were working in the yard, busting up the old sidewalk. I'd swing, then he'd swing. I even introducing him to the idea of singing prison songs to keep the cadence. Anyway, after trading off a few times, I reached in to move a piece of loose concrete when...
BAM!!!
Right on the end of my finger, he lands a mighty blow. I sprang up, trying to downplay it and making sure he knew it wasn't his fault. I didn't cuss or yell, you would have thought I had a paper cut, but I did say I needed to go inside. I put my feet up to avoid fainting and settled in to watch the finale of 24 on TV.
So it swelled up and turned purple. It hurt, but not too badly. I finally decided to go to the ER yesterday (24 hrs later). They x-rayed it and found that the tip had been smashed into 3 pieces. Not much to do about it other than stabilize it and give me some antibiotics. The doc refered me to an orthopedic surgeon who I will see Friday.
