Well, what do you all think of the tank switching strategy in CTF? I think it is a bad idea cause it's just a way to quickly warp to your base, so you can guard if you are falling behind the convoy.

Perhaps I should limit it's use somehow?

The reason behind having it is so that people can try out the different tanks without having to go all the way back to the tank selection menu. (also allows people to test the ufo without having to play solomode forever to unlock it)

Every time you change tank though, you are committing suicide (as far as the stats are concerned) and too much tank changing in the same game will therefore start to taint your ranking.

Yes, but what about the people who aren't signed up on PlanetThinkTanks? Those people won't be ranked, so that doesn't effect them.

Maybe 5-10 switches per game.

People still like to have a high score nat. Having this helps to let people see a UFO, and consequently not waste their time trying to get one :P I think CTF is perfect right now...

How about you can only switch when already dead? (As had been discussed ages ago in a feature wishlist for TT in general.)

Although, it would be nice if there was a mapped key. Heh.. Or a small GUI..

Should tank switching be implemented for all game modes?

Actually I don't think I ever got wind of that idea (at least, I can't remember it if I did). I quite like the sound of it, however... Perhaps that would mean people would just end up cliff diving in order to die so that they could switch tanks.

Perhaps if it affected your in-game score people would be more hesitant in using the feature?

I don't think people cliff diving to switch tanks is that big of an issue. (At least not bigger than using the "Light Please" suicide to get back to base.)

If people are worried about their score they will have to wait until they die to switch tanks, which isn't too long of a wait in most CTF games I've been in. Of course remembering to hit the tank switch before hitting the space bar is another thing. Not sure how well that would work. Unless you could change it at any time, and the effect only happens when you die and come back. Almost a "Next Tank" feature?

But how often are people going to switch tanks anyway?

Here is an idea! Make it so when you switch, there is a 5-10 second wait before you respawn.

Most people want a new tank in a specific place. So when you die you go to a different place. No one would cliff dive(esp. In BTM) to get a tank and end up in a different place completely!! I like the idea...

Ok.. So the plan is that you can type in "ufo please" at any point, and it gives you a message saying that your tank will be changed to a UFO next time you die. Is this right?

Sounds good. Hopefully that won't confuse people used to the old system.

Future plan: Hit a key and it cycles through the tanks on a small gui that says "next tank" and has a small picture of the tank? Or would it be better to be able to click an icon? Or is that too hard in game? Or how about keys 1-4 choose the tank. When you push it, it shows the little next tank icon?

I vote for 1-4 keys that you push WHILE dead. You have to remember to do it befor pressing space--or...

Why dont you put a timer on it, if you switch tanks it puts a 10 second time on it, so if you are doing a warp by the time you do the action would be virtualy over? :)

I like it the way it is. Maybe just limit it to 3 per game so u can use all 4 for the best team contribution.

I agree with the 1-4 keys but put a limit on it like 3-5 per game so its not like you switch every 5 seconds... ;)

Or, add tank changer gates so you need to drive all the way there, and all the way back.
