George W. Bush? Are they kidding?

The guy has removed any dove ornaments from his oval office christmas tree. Plus, he has...

I canceled my subscription after that.

Obviously they are mis-informed or just ignorant. Which is ironic for a TIME magazine.

I can't stand W. But the truth of the matter is, he ran for reelection for the presidency of the United States... And won. Winning a second term as the president of the United States seems like a great basis for being voted Man of the Year, regardless of your feelings about the man.

True but there a controversies surrounding both wins. The initial contest with Gore and this one with Kerry. Bush is a stump, he should be featured in the Lumberjack's of the year magazine...

LOL Napalm. Maybe he should also be listed in "Mannequin of the Year" magazine.

(b'cause he is a big dummy).

With his record of cocaine possesion, drunk driving, and more, how can he be the "Person of the Year"?

Yeah, I thought that was odd too when I heard it this morning. But I imagine it's exactly what K8 said. In fact, Time mentioned they gave him the award for "changing politics" Heh, probably a subtle reference to stealing votes.

I still don't agree with the award though.

Now, if they had an award for "Best simian acting as a human", well then, he'd be a shoe in!

Also remember that TIME has stated repeatedly that the Person of the Year is not necessarily the most popular. It is the person who has had the biggest impact on the news and the world throughout the year. Anyone remember Bin Laden being the person of the year? George W is in good company.

@ tg
good point...i was thinking the same. "person of the year" has a kindof subconscious conotation of being good so I think poeple expect to see someone who exudes decency. Not the case apparently. He has been the focus of the media, the general public, and the world for a better part of the year if not the the whole year (and before). For this I think he qualifies for the distinction. I hate the moron, but I would go so far as to say he may be the early front runner for person of the decade...ugh im depressing myself..i gotta get off this topic. Oh well, that was my 2 cents anyway. :(

I like him. Congratulations to W for taking a lot of BS and standing tall. He may not say it very well, but he stands up for what I believe in and I support him. Besides, that award is not given to most popular or who everyone thinks is the greatest. It is often bestowed on someone who has shown exceptional influence or accomplishment (good or bad) during the course of the year. I hardly think that the rank and file at TIME magazine like or support Bush. Too bad for them.
