I know when I began (and I still am beginning), cutting out all the part to recolor them was one of the most painstaking parts of skin making. Below is a pic of most of the major parts of the light tank skin cut out. I admit, its not perfect, but its great for a begginer... Thanku

Here are some better ones, saved as PNG's to show transparancy

Only one I'm missing is the heavy

Oh... I cataloged the major parts of the light skin... Youll probably outdo me in this too but...

Well, unless I gave out my psd. There's not much I'd do except make it transparent again and keep it the proper size.

LGM

Impressive for using appleworks. Labor intensive. Look up GraphicConverter, it's a free demo and it can do some stuff. (not as much as photoshop, of course...) It's only available for Macs.

Friday, March 18, 2005 at 11:17:26 AM

Use Gimp. It's free, and VERY powerful.

Friday, March 18, 2005 at 4:17:42 PM

I now have graphics converter... It is awsome... And I like the "spray can" feature in apple works. Also, I can't figure out how to do gradients in graphics converter.

Lmao I am a beginner. Ur templates help alot

Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 10:05:39 PM

Gimp can even do basic painting. P.O.'ed that it can't draw straight lines? Hold down SHIFT while drawing. Geometric shapes? Just make a brush for them. Piece 'o cake. It puts Photoshop to shame.
As for the labeled template, mind telling us which side each plate's on?

Monday, February 20, 2006 at 4:30:02 AM

Top = left, bottom = mirrored version of right. Make sure when you type on the bottom that you flip it around so you read it forwards on the actual tank.

Monday, February 20, 2006 at 5:01:57 AM

No it doesnt....

To make a floting image is 8 steps in gimp while its one in PhotoShop.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

And because of that, you'd need to fill in, if my calculations are correct, 262,144 pixels. No, I'm sticking with GIMP. It's free, open-source, and KICK-@$$. Plus, if I want a pixel-by-pixel editor (useful for making avatars), I go with ArtIcons.

5 questions to ask youself when picking an image editor:
1. Does it support layering?
2. How many tools does it have?
3. Does it have any useful/interesting effects?
4. Is it easy to use?
5. How much does it cost?
Just a guide. I'd be curious to know how "Pixen" stacks up with those compared to the Gimp.

Hee hee hee... This thread is now about a year and a half old. And still on page 1. XD
Basic Gimp chrome tutorial:
1. Download the blank tank skin for whatever tank you´re skinning.
2. Hit Ctrl+A and add a bevel.
3. Go to Script-Fu > Distorts > Emboss.
4. Resave the file.

Here I just made a blank heavy.

Rough around the edges, but it gets the job done. ;)

What did you use? Paint? In Gimp, try this:
1. Hit Z.
2. Click on the black. Hold down Shift and click on all the black parts.
3. Hit Ctrl+I and then Shift+E, and erase everything.
4. This works on all tank skins.

Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at 2:38:20 AM

No, I actually used Gimp for that. I just put it though tons of filters to get that result.
