I was trying to enter some new mods recently and it would start to load and get to the last series of objects loading and then just sit there with 90% of the status bar complete. Why would this happen?

I have a decent PC... Gig of ram, Windows XP, etc. Etc.

This happened with me too. I would like to know the answer to this also.

I've had this happen to me with my own mod, lol. I have 2 copies of TT that I use. One freezes up when I launch my dedicated server, so I launch the second to join in games.

1 of my maps "Monlight Mesa" uses the "nebulae" sky skin located over there on the left.

<==========(In the files, sky skins)

1st time I tried to join it, it did exactly what you said and stopped about 90% of the way in. My guess is that for some reason, your computer doesn't want to download them. When I went back and copied the skins into ThinkTanks/Contents/Resources/game/skies it worked fine.

Other people seem to have no problem getting in, and I don't know if it was my mod you had the problem with, but if it was, sorry. I'm pretty new to all this and make frequent mistakes.

Anyway, if it wasn't mine, I'd like to know what's going on too.

KBC, one thing I do not want to do is have to search around for a DL to play a game.

I think it is the one that says "Bring your flashlight" that allways stalls out. Until I read this post I thought it was a server prob, or a prob with my connection. There was no other way for me to figure out what it was.

Yeah, think I'll junk the stars. I downloaded the Nebulae months ago and forgot I had it. By the time I made the mod, I thought it was a regular part of the game.

It wasn't until I tried launching a dedicated server, and had the above problem that I realized where it had come from.

Alot of people are beginning to incorporate new objects into the game. This stall is just the new objects downloading to your computer. Please people, just wait. This can get quite long in my servers.

Every1 who has problems downloading servers look at me. ALL SERVERS with genius bots when it is done loading my comp says "Think Tanks has caused an error in unknown Think Tanks will now close" and it closes it but my name reamins on the name list of that server until I press ctrl alt delete :S

Its all about connections and download times

You will conect to any server under normal circumstances (server is running i.e. Isn't crashed, still power on, internet connection is running) if you wait long enough.

KBC, about all of your large island mods, they contain too many figures, (rocks, trees, bones) so your server will be held up trying to send out info as well as processing information for people already in the game

I suggest you make the map smaller, take out some bots (not recommended), or take out some objects (recommended).

Oh, I think that since you raised your land to get rid of the white fog, there might be some objects under the earth (certainly get rid of those)

SWAT, Time it takes to get into the MOD isn't what we're talking about.

It would start to load and get to the last series of objects loading and then just sit there with 90% of the status bar complete.

I had the same problem entering my own MOD. What would I be downloading? In the case of the Island MOD, I think the problem had to do with some scripting problems that I've since taken care of. There were some minor syntax errors that let the game run, but would eventually freeze up the level.

Oh, I think that since you raised your land to get rid of the white fog, there might be some objects under the earth

I simply removed the fog. Objects have been added, but the terrain hasn't been altered.

My ability to host a full server with such a large map is not a problem. It all depends on the user's connection. If you are reading a large ping for a server, you'll probably have lag issues. I've hosted many full games and never had a problem. Yes there are a lot of objects in the lush levels of my MOD, but I have no plans to remove any of them. I spent way too much money on a landscape contractor. XD

The reason I made the MOD was to get something different. The islands were already there, and the addition of the landscaping gives it the feel of a new map. Plus, I love the scenery! So what's the point of taking it out? If waiting longer for each level to load is a problem, then simply don't go in.

As far as paisano's original question, I think that it's really just a problem with the MOD itself. Especially when it comes to someone like me. I've had VERY basic experience scripting anything, so I'm going to make mistakes.

Yes, KBC, its about the connection

When you enter your own game, you have to download the game like everyone else. No way around. There isn't any code that can let you bypass your own loading

If you got me wrong, I might say ok cause I'm still on demo version :( :( :S :'(

Guess we're thinking about 2 different things. The point I was trying to make is that I wouldn't be downloading any objects to my computer, but I still had the same problem as paisano. That's why I think it was a scripting error.

You download the mission file from the server and it will tell ThinkTanks where to put everything. The problem comes when the mission file says "use x file", and the game doesn't have it. Demos would have a longer time getting into my mod the 1st time because of items like,

ShapeName = "game/data/shapes/Blue/Bones.dts";

If the file's there, there's no need to download it. The demo version of ThinkTanks doen't have that file, so the 1st time you came into my server you would have to download it. That's not a connection problem.

Thats right thats how it works KBC. I love your mods...never had any problems like I have on other servers...
