I have never seen this thread before, but I must say it is very well put. It still needs to be a bit more detailed on pointless thread part, and maybe new parts as well?

I am glad to see this back up from the pit of ptt, I agree with AO that there is some work to be done on this thread, but it is a good read for new players.

The PTT Forums are a remarkable place full of veterans, moderators, admins, and newbies [possibly] like you struggling to get by. This guide will help you get respect and become an integral part of PTT.
Updated June 23rd, 2006, at 7:33 AM EST- ST name-change by request.
Before you dive into PTT, there are rules.
PART 1: Rules
-Don't spam. Spamming is posting twice or more in a row, OR posting anything pointless/useless/that we could do without. Enough spam could flood PTT and crash it, and even a newbie's typical spamming spree can slow it down a bit. So don't spam.
-Don't bump. This is a kind of spamming in which you post on a thread that's long-dead (the discussion was over a long time ago). As a general rule, if it's not on Page 1, don't post on it.
-Don't swear out of control. That goes without saying.
-DON'T PANIC.
-Don't be overly arrogant - respect opinions, and remember that what one person thinks is crazy, another might think is ingenious.
-Don't make pointless threads or threads for topics that have already been answered.
-If your thread gets locked, don't try to make another one unless you understand why it was locked.
-Photos are usually okay, but offensive/X-rated photos aren't. Keep in mind that what you think is good fun might be considered offensive by someone else.
-If I sound like an ettiquette teacher, sorry, but there really are guidelines PTT users are expected to follow. People have been silenced by moderators (more on that later) and even permanently banned because they couldn't follow these rules.
But, like I said, don't panic. The mods on PTT are a lot friendlier than on some message boards I could name, and they usually don't do anything without a good reason. They give you 3 warnings before silencing you, for example.
Now that that's over with, on to the good stuff.
PART 2: Armies
This is where a lot of newbies get confused. An army (aka clan) is a group of members that fight together in team games, can have wars with other clans, and even start their own (well, hopefully not anymore).
The best clans, IMO, are as follows:
-UF, Unstoppable Force
-SA, Shadow's Army
-ST, Scytheman's Tribe
-MI, Monkey Intelligence
-UT, United Tanks
-VT, Vigilante Tanks
My advice is to join one army and stick with it. Do NOT try to start your own, unless you are prepared for a LOT of bashing by other members. We have BY FAR enough armies as is.
These are the sorts of people you wouldn't want to run into in a dark alley.
PART 3: Mods/Admins
Mods (Moderators) and Admins (Administrators) run PTT. They're anyone who has a shield icon next to their post rankings, like so:
They have super-user powers like locking threads and editing other users posts. They're responsible for any unexpected changes you see in your post. It means you did something wrong. LISTEN TO THEIR ADIVCE.
LIST OF MODS/ADMINS:
56k Lag Man- Nice guy, also a modder and pioneer of the NeuroSIA interface.
Chilled Lizard- Has contributed a lot to TT, such as the PTT Search for FireFox script and TT Informer Podcast.
Dan MacDonald- Co-admin of PTT.
Dash- Pioneer in in-game administration.
Deej- Not around much anymore, maybe that's because now he's a father.
Hugobrainz- PLANNING TO TAKE OVER PTT!!!
James Bomb- Again, not around anymore. Bomb... James Bomb...
KillingBrainCells- ehh... How to put this... Very vigilant.
Lonewolf- Leader of UF and an active army-forum mod.
Rabban- the HAMMER! Right-wing political ideals, a lengthy record, and a prominent heavy avatar- that's Rabban.
Tally Ho- Leet, light-tank leftist lacking in activity.
Napalm- The most active of them all- he even turned himself in once for posting nude pics.
-z-- the world-famous admin of PTT.
And no, you can't become a mod/admin. You can ask, but odds are they won't let you.
