Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Don't make me paste the whole web standards act here. XD

-z-

That whole section is about to be completely redesigned and is only temporary. Just a case of getting around to it amongst the many other things that need doing.

Friday, July 23, 2004 at 1:29:08 AM

Alright thanks.

And get firefox. It's better. XD

-z-

I have firefox.. Still prefer IE though.

Friday, July 23, 2004 at 2:06:14 AM

*shudders*...... %)

Friday, July 23, 2004 at 5:21:56 AM

I have Safari, which is about 5x faster than IE or Firefox!
And instead of an annoying X, you get a ?
Wee!!!

Friday, July 23, 2004 at 10:41:21 AM

Safari is slower than firefox. I pitted the two together on two different computers lol.

Friday, July 23, 2004 at 8:30:30 PM

Maybe your connection was slower on the Mac, because it has been proven that Safari is faster than Firefox and IE on MacAddict!

Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 10:50:35 AM

MacAddict is bias towards the mac, come on, even you know that.

Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 6:21:43 PM

Everyone knows that Opera is the best!

Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 7:23:24 PM

Hahahahahahahaha!

Sorry, but... *chuckle*... Hahaha.... Heh... Hahahahaha... Sorry sorry... HAHAHA.. Opera... Heh.

Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 9:38:09 PM

*takes Nathan back to asylum*

Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 11:41:49 AM

Spunky, if you want a fast browser for the mac, get Mozilla Camino.

Click here to check it out!

No, Safari is still faster. Took Camino 2 seconds to load PTT and took Safari 1.

Monday, July 26, 2004 at 11:13:11 AM

You probably started counting at 1 for camino, and 0 for safari. XD

Monday, July 26, 2004 at 6:50:41 PM

No, I started counting as soon as I pressed enter for both of them, and I used a stopwatch.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 10:42:55 AM

The second time your reaction time would be hampered due to the energy used to press it the first time. :)

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 3:27:08 AM

FYI when testing browser load times, be sure to clear the cache each time you load. Also traffic on that site can change every second and give innacurate results

B

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 4:03:09 AM

Done that, Bolo, and Safari is still faster. Give it up, you guys. :P

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 10:20:15 AM

Camino has more features though. Tell me what makes Safari your favourite browser. :P

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 7:30:53 PM

The bookmarks bar.

Friday, July 30, 2004 at 1:29:44 PM

I like Mozilla's bookmark bar, and tabbed browsing.

Let's not forget about themes. (You can download more)

Or extensions! (You can download more)

And the oh so good download manager!

Hahahaha! BEAT THAT

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 11:44:03 PM

I think it's sad that the only thing that's different about Firefox that you can gloat about is the ability to change what it looks like. That adds absolutely nothing to it.
It's not really something to gloat about a Downloads manager, because all browsers have them. (except stupid IE)
You have seen the bookmarks bar, which is one reason why I like it.
If you want proof, then you'll have to wait, because my computer is bugging out and doesn't want to take screen shots.

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 1:02:50 PM

What about the fact that Firefox is open source? XD

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 5:16:53 PM

That only matters to nerdy people like you, Nathan, who actually might have an idea what to do with an open source browser. ;)

I switched from IE to Safari and I like it a lot! But I'm not so loyal to it that I'd time it just to see how fast it is.

Give it up Nathan, Spunky will outargue you one way or another because Safari is better .

P.S. @Spunky

I see you have your signature bookmarked too. Great minds think alike :)

It's really convenient because I can just hit the link, copy the url, click back and paste. Much simpler and easier than keeping the url in some other application, and this was I don't have to actually memorize it either XD

Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 6:42:53 AM

P.S. And don't give me any crap about dragging up month-old threads.. It was on the first page, perfectly legitimate argument material, and it's not my fault the help forum has a slow turnover rate. Besides, who could resist a chance to bug Nathan :P

Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 6:47:31 AM

I don't mind, seems to happen all the time. XD

Anyway, spunky, changing the way it looks DOES add something to it, makes it more pleasant to look at.

@*

Vive le open source! :P

You're fighting a losing battle, Nathan. Just give up while you're ahead. :P

Monday, August 30, 2004 at 10:41:19 PM

You're being stupid lol, if I'm ahead, how can it be a 'losing battle'? XD

My options menu is nicer looking too. ;)
See?

Case in point. :P

You need to admit, this is a neat feature:

Automatic Popup Blocking! - Greatest feature in the world. It's not even an extension, it's a built in feature. :P

Wednesday, September 01, 2004 at 9:48:28 PM

Poor Nathan. When Spunky said, "Quit while you're ahead" he meant "Quit while you're ahead of where you will be shortly".

P.S. No one in their right mind would ever want any popups at all! What sort of person would actually say, "sure, I'll get the popups from these sites"? Oh, right, Nathan would ;). So Safari's block popups is actually better because it's simpler more to the point.

P.P.S. I wonder what Nathan was downloading to make him want to clear his download manager history 8o (j/k)

Sunday, September 05, 2004 at 12:30:48 AM

Firefox will automaticly block ALL popup windows, but if you want to see one, for some reason, you can add that url to the "safe list".

Sir kAtes, you're being stupid again. ;)

Oh, ya, and this:

That feature is great for all the vocabulary-less people out there, like sir kAtes. :P

Sunday, September 05, 2004 at 2:54:38 AM

My friend and my bro use firefox and they say its the best spunk and asterisk and my bro is like a computer genius :P

Thursday, September 09, 2004 at 9:52:26 PM

He hasn't tried Safari then!

Thursday, September 09, 2004 at 9:58:55 PM

It's been a good fight. I won.
Let me end this thread by saying:

You should be happy, Nathan. Now you get to use that handy little spelling feature on your own post.

Monday, September 13, 2004 at 10:26:51 PM

IE explorer is the slowest maybe or fore sure but has less features and easy to use isn't that nice less feature's and easy to use and slow :) im happy with IE

Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 4:29:36 AM

Asterisk, because Firefox is OPEN SOURCED, I should write you a GRAMMER CHECKER!

Muhaha. %)

Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 1:13:38 AM

Sure guys, let's all make this a battle of spelling...pitiful! Pitiful, I say!

Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 4:57:20 PM

But seriousely, why would Safari need a "Restart Safari" function?

And what the fuddle is the little loopy-looking-flowery-shaped key that's shown beside the functions? Is that the key that makes macs work good? Because I've yet to find that key. :P

Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 9:52:34 PM

That's the COMMAND key...jeez, is that all you got?

Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 10:13:45 PM

In FireBird you can customize the animation for loading a page:

Loading :

Done :

If you want to try it, put userChrome.css , banana-still.gif , and banana.gif in your
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.tls\chrome
folder.

Geeze everyone calm down, I have Firefox on my PC and Safari on my Mac, and they both seem to be equivlant. Just call this battle a draw.

Friday, September 17, 2004 at 8:56:04 AM

@laggy-

My version of firefox doesn't have that. I didn't like it. XD
And what version of windows are you running? It looks ugly. :p

Friday, September 17, 2004 at 9:13:03 PM

Guys I tried firefox a while back and it sucks up WAY more resources than IE. I love the features but it isnt worth the extra weight. Is there a way to get it to run better? Im a firefox weakling and havent dove into it.

B

Friday, September 17, 2004 at 10:28:11 PM

It's win2k Nathan. If I had all that candy in XP, I would poke around and figure out how to disable it to make it look like 2k.
If you want ugly, check out my mp3 player . I like my interface to be fast and responsive and not take resources away from what I'm working on.

@Bolo: I'd like to know too, I still use IE because it's initial load time is faster. But I'll take Thunderbird over Outlook anyday.

A while back

There's your problem. ;)
It also depends on how many extensions and themes you have installed, the more you load on, the more it will take up.
IE is actually using more processor power because the "meat" of IE isn't shown on the task manager. Alot is loaded when windows starts, and is actually part of the EXPLORER.exe process.
Firefox, in the other hand, shows it all at once.

Gotta admit though, this is a cool feature:

Whenever a site tries to install software without you knowing, this will show just below your toolbars at the top. You can also make an "allow list". I have mozilla.org on that so I can install extensions, ect.

And also in the new version, you can create "live bookmarks", that are really RSS feeds that look like bookmarks. ;)
Example:

So, to sum it up, Mozilla Firefox is probably the best browswer you could ever use, after you factor in the pros and cons.
XD

A cursory non-scientific test has the memory resource use at about the same between the 2 browsers. ~23MB with IE growing up to 35MB at times, then dropping back down. Meh.
