What kind of graphics card are you using and on what type of machine?

Is your computer old?

How much video memory does that graphics card have?

OS 10.3.8
"improved Open GL technology and updated ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers"

PS. Fine for me too

I'm experiencing the same thing Cat.

Terrible lag in every game right after the 10.3.8 update..

I have a 15" LCD G4 iMac 800 mhz. System. Since my internet connection seems zippy re: downloading and web use I have to peg our problem on the updated nVidia graphics drivers. My systems comes with a 32 mb GeForce 2 MX graphics card. Hope an update fix appears since I haven't seen any such issue posted on MacFixIt.com nor MacInTouch.com. Everything else is running fine.

Damn update! 8(

UPDATE!!!

CAT! ME THINK ME HAVE ANSWER FOR YOU!!! IT FIX MY THINKTANKS TRY THIS...

Do you have the Macally iShock driver installed? I checked my Mac's activity monitor app and it showed the iShock driver was taking up over 50% of my processor load!

Search for these 3 items on your hard drive and delete them:
com.macally.ishockx.plist
iShockXDriver
iShockXForceSupport.bundle

IT WORKS! Yay! Hola! Yay!

(For some reason the 10.3.8 update and the iShock driver don't mix.)

Delete the files in your Cache folder, most likely...the cache folder stores useless things like pictures, scripts, and icons from programs that you already have and don't need a duplicate of.

Better yet, search for and download Doublet Scan by Kagi, it searches for files that have the same name as other files and gives you the choice of deleting them. I found about 97,000 files that weren't needed, which is 11.9 gigabytes of my disk space!

You're welcome Cat!

Regarding the hard drive space issue... Lol! I had that too. I think that too stems from the iShock driver issue. A nice free utility (or is it shareware? Me forget) is "System Optimizer X 4.5.4". It should get your system up to shape no time.

Me love you all. :)

OM

The problem stems from the fact that the "cron" scripts that are designed to run on your system on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to clean out old system and user cache files, old logs, etc, are timed to run in the middle of the night. Remember that OS X is a Unix based OS, and that's how Unix systems were originally designed, since no-one ever shut them down. If you put your Mac to sleep or shut down each night, the cron scripts never get to run, so those cache files and other junk build up over time.

You could do one of several things: run the scripts yourself in the Terminal.app from time to time. Or you can create an Applescript to run them for you, if you know how. Or, you can change the timing of when the scripts run using the Terminal. Or, if you're like most people and rather not mess with terminal stuff, use an app like the one Bertha recommends. There are several others, like Onyx and Cocktail, which all do basically the same thing, but with their own unique flair. They will all let you run those scripts at will to do what should be happening in the middle of the night.

But in the end Cat, I'm not sure if your problem was related to non-running crons. The cache files don't build up that quick. There must be some other explanation.
