I was just talking to a friend of mine and he brought up an old story. I'd actually forgotten about it. I may be pushing the bounds a bit with this story.

I grew up in the middle of Pittsburgh. When I was 16 a friend of mine had just gotten his license. Not too exciting. I must mention that his father owned a limousine company. My friend became a limo driver and soon after the fun began. He would pick about a dozen of us up after work for a ride in a limo. This was awesome at that age for obvious reasons. Of course as the weeks went by we got bored.

One Friday night I had the bright idea that we should cruise the dark streets of the Burgh and goof on hookers. We'd pull up in a limo and roll down the window and act like we were ready to party then take off wildly down the street. This cracked us up. When she was all fired up for a big payday we'd takeoff. This too of course got boring. So once again I had another bright idea. I told my friends that we should get a fire extinguisher and blast a hooker with it after we rolled down the window. Well, it came to be that none of us had a fire extinguisher so we decided on the next best thing; mustard. Not your ordinary run of the mill bottle of mustard. I'm talking about your Wal-Mart giant sized, extended family 30 gallon tub of mustard.

So here's what we did, or actually I did. We pulled up to a hooker as usual and I'd pop my head out of the window. I'd say, "Hey baby, we're looking for a good time." She'd poke her head in to check out the scene, scoping the dozen or so of us, then of course she'd start selling her wares. Once she felt all comfy with the situation I'd ask her to flash us. Once she did this I'd yoke out our liquified yellow weaponry and douse her chest with about 80 ounces of yellow mustard. Goooooooooooooosh. We then would take off down the street in hopes to find another. This was a blast, as any 16 year old might, of course until we got caught. Mustard stains and all we got busted. My folks had to pick me up down at the station for a reason that to this day entertains their friends. Yes, my friend was no longer a limo driver and no we didn't get fined. The police didn't know what to charge us for.

Tell me some of the stupid stuff you did as a kid. I personally have done hundreds of ridiculous things.

Happy Turkey Day.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Thanks for sharing, Rogue. Good idea for a topic, by the way.

Here's the first thing that popped into my head when I think about the craziest things that I did as a kid.

It was rough growing up on the mean streets of Newark, New Jersey. We lived in a mostly black neighborhood and my whole family were immigrants from Italy (me and my three brothers were born there and didn't speak no english). Anyway, we had to prove ourselves all of the time by fighting bigger kids. Thank goodness this was a time when we settled things the old fashioned way with our fists rather than with the guns (which is the punk way of doing it). I am proud to say that I never lost a fight (sure, I had my nose broken a few times, but I always emerged in better shape).

Anyway, one of the stupid and crazy things that we did for fun and to prove who was chicken and who was a man (silly) was roof jumping.
We would all gather on top of some buildings (homes, businesses, etc.) and start challenging each other. Many chickened out by the time we reached those buildings that looked like they were a block away from each other. Well, because we were outsiders and always trying to impress, I naturally never backed away from a dare! Obviously, since I am here today typing this post, I made every jump I ever attempted! There were a few close calls, one especially where I actually landed on the very edge of the roof and barely made it! I stopped doing it after that one.
No one ever did it either after that.

Talk about crazy...huh?

I CONFESS! IM A 13 YEAR OLD SHOPLIFTER!

Monday, November 22, 2004 at 8:51:15 PM

I burned down a Drive In Theater ! Well the main building not the screen. I also with help burned about 25 feet of Rail Road tracks, all this when I was 12 years old. There is a lot worse stuff I did when I turned 14 I joined a gang called the Bloods in L.A., Cali. ! So I am sure you have a idea how bad I was as a kid. Just to give you a idea, by the time I was 15 the Courts took me out of home.
I have made a long journey from that person to who I am now. The sad things is I have scars to remind me every day of who I was so I can never really get away from my past. B)

When I was about 11, I took my bike to one of the top most hills around here. It was in the middle of winter so that hill was iced up. I started riding my bike down that hill with the breaks completely helpless against that ice Lol. I must've gone at well over 70mph or more. Next thing I remember I woke up in the hospital XD

Monday, November 22, 2004 at 9:13:56 PM

Where to begin? I'll make mine short.
Jump. That's the only word for it. Up in Chicago, we would go up to a cliff overlying Lake Superior and eat lunch (my friends and I). One day, a bunch of crazy kids dared one of us to jump off. Guess who got the lucky jump? This was about 200-250 feet up, so my ears popped at least 3 times and I almost fell unconscious just while falling, impact and it was black. I woke up in the hospital and found I had almost drowned. I made 700 bucks though...

On New Years Eve, about 3 years ago, I was lighting a sparkler stick and I tried to put the match out. My uncle had just put down a cup of Jack Daniels near a bunch of of rocket fireworks, and I tried to extinguish the match by putting it in the Whiskey. I dont think I have to say what happened next. XD

I deleted your post Max. IMO This is not a no holds barred public venue and freedom of speech is a privilege here, not a right. Two of the acts you referred to performing were serious felonies. Nothing impressive about them, just sad. Take it up with DanMac if you feel strongly about this issue as I will not reverse my position.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 11:18:09 AM

When posting what may be to some adult content, is it too much to ask that people stop and consider the community? We have kids here....and parents. C'mon show some respect. I'm not talking about the thread or Rogue's post btw.

Max goin on about the word C^% after your post was deleted is disgusting.

Perhaps we should consider having a forum for the over 18 set.
It's not that the content is the problem max, but the audience net is widely cast.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 1:12:07 PM

I feel your pain Max... My childhood wasn't all peaches and cream either. I was exposed to sex and drugs at a very young age too.

I'm not going to go into too many details because it's not appropriate for a public forum such as this. Let's just say that I came to terms with the fact that what happened was not my fault. That's why I was acquitted.

The dramatic irony of life is that many things that are bad sometimes seem to be or feel good and vise versa... I.e. Sex and Drugs... People under the age of 18 are not as accountable for their actions because they don't really comprehend this irony as well as adults! That's why it is illegal for an adult to have sexual relations with a minor, even if the minor is consenting... It's called Statutory Rape, and the law is in place for a very good reason.

Max, I understand why my fellow moderators deleted your posts. I probably would've just edited them to be less derogatory, but they did what they felt was right and I support their decision. Please repost your comments in a less graphic nature. Feel free to express yourself and share with us your experiences, but keep in mind that this is a public forum with a large underage population. Just keep it clean and there won't be any problems.

I started drinking and doing drugs on New Years Eve of 1988. I was only 11 years old. My dad was the one who passed me the joint. I did meth and coke a few times as a teen, but never got too into it. My drugs of choice where, shrooms, marijuana, and Hashish. Never was too fond of the chemical stuff, except for LSD. I once dripped liquid L (Purple Haze) into my eye's and I haven't been able to see straight since. I have perma trails.

The 1990's was a very dark period of my life. Many things happened that should not have happened. Of all my regrets, there are two that I regret the most. One is dropping out of the 10th grade. The other is taking Sarah Lavoi to that party. It was the last time she was ever seen.

Kids, nothing good could ever come from those types of drugs! Trust me! They're not worth your time!!!

In 1999, a miracle happened. I met the love of my life. At the time I was at a turning point in my life. I had narrowly escaped death a few times and was seriously regretting it. God brought this woman to me because I asked him to prove to me that there was something good in this world. Not only was she worth living for, she was worth changing my life for.

I've came to terms with my past. I realized that my childhood was beyond my control. We just got to do the best we can with the hand we're dealt, and God doesn't deal the same cards to every single person. Sometimes the deck is shuffled in your favor, sometimes it's not. It doesn't matter how good or bad a hand you get. It's all about how you play it!

My wife helped me realize that I truly am the master of my own reality. Life is only as bad or as good as you make it! You know the difference between right and wrong. You control your destiny with the decisions you make! Decide what kind of life you want to live, then make the decisions necessary to obtain that lifestyle.

Hopefully, you're not so tainted by superficial pleasures such as sex and drugs that you choose the path of hate and pain. I was on that path and believe me... It's NOT worth it! There are much better things that life has to offer.

As a kid / teenager, we really can't differentiate right from wrong as well as we can as adults. At the time, we like to think we can, but when we grow up and look back on it, we realize that we couldn't. That's why the legal age is set at 18 here in the united states.

@ all you younglings... No matter how bad you may think you got it, count your blessings and be grateful, because it could be worse! Trust me! For many people, it IS worse! Don't waist your time with drugs, they'll only bring you down! And you'll have plenty of time for sex and alcohol in college!!!

If you start messing around with that stuff too early, it could mess up your mind for the rest of your life! It's not worth the risk man! The devil will never come to you with red skin, huge bat wings, horns, and a goatee! I know sex and drugs seem to be all cool and stuff... But trust me... IT'S NOT!!! It really isn't...

Youth is a precious thing my friends, enjoy it while you still can.

Here's a post from Max that was deleted. After reviewing this post I didn't really see a valid reason for deleting it. If fact, it's an apology. Little sarcastic, but an admission of guilt and apology none the less...

Max, I for one accept your apology... Like I said before, just keep it clean and we won't have any problems.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 5:35:19 PM

I've got some hair raisers, and they're all going to the grave with me. Kids romanticize that dreck and somehow forget all the salient points like... "I nearly died", "you can go to prison for doing such and such", "My parents never talked to me again", etc. Before you go spouting off about this stuff think about who is listening that may admire you, for whatever other reason, and decide that "well he turned out ok", sounds fun, why not me? The problem is that when it's their turn they aren't the statistical anomaly that you are and they end up dead or in prison.

Here's the rub: the judgement center of our brains is the last to develop. It finishes anywhere (if I remember correctly) between 17-25. Children can be just as intelligent as the adults around them (reason and logic-wise) but they have little experience and that coupled with poor judgement can get them into bad situations.

I think youngsters often realize that they are as intelligent as many of the adults around them and therefore assume that they are ready to make decisions that they simply aren't yet equipped to make. And then when you get a gathering of such youngsters things can snowball out of control. Witness the "riot" at the spring VEISHA celebration here on the ISU campus.

I know I did plenty of things in my youth that left me wondering why I did them afterward. Don't be afraid to second guess yourselves youngsters.

Crazy things...as a kid.

Once a friend came to visit me on the farm. We were looking for things to do, so we ended up in the chicken house/storage building. We found bags of empty canning jars. Since the walls were made of cider blocks, we had a great idea. We started throwing those jars at the wall. It was pretty awesome, flinging those things and listening to them crash on the walls.

One time when my mom and aunt went to a church meeting, my cousin and I stayed home to play. Just before she left, I asked mom if I could go on the roof to get my frisbee and she agreed. Later on, my cousin and I were bored, so I decided we would play a prank on our moms. Remembering a previous Halloween costume, I mixed up some gelatin and added red food coloring which I then applied to my face. We got it together just in time for the ladies return. I dove onto the couch and covered my face with a hanky. My cousin did a terrible job of telling them I got hurt, but I guess his nervousness was convincing enough. When my mom came in, she removed the hanky and this look of horror crossed her face. Fortunately, I couldn't keep it together and I started smiling. She was relieved, but angry. She thought I had fallen off the roof, but we had forgotten to go up there.

(PS - I also have my personal stories of self destruction, but those didn't really kick in until high school and I think this was supposed to be a "light" thread.)

Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 5:56:07 AM

I made a 1 foot speed bump out of snow and huge chunks of Ice. And I got introble with the cops :P But it was so funny watching the cars fly over the miny jump

Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 4:19:29 PM

Well, after looking through this thread, I have concluded that there is almost no "acceptable" answer. This is really a non-thread. The topic should be called "Tell us what crazy things you did as a kid as long as your answer will not objectionable to kids, prudes, or the religious right."

Seeing how this thread has developed, I have decided that the crazy things I did as a kid would be completely unacceptable to post here.....

Funny. What the heck happened? Everyone's in bed up here in the Burgh so I figured I'd hop on PTT. What was so hard about telling a couple of humorous stories about yourself as a kid?

Relax or I'll be forced to come to your home and douche you with some mustard.

My bad. I guess. Sorry if my thread was not appropriate. I was just looking for some funny things like this one for instance.

One time my old man and I got into a fight and I took EVERY pair of pants, jeans and slacks he owned. I put them in a garbage bag and hid them until he apologized. This went on for a week. Did I mention it was the middle of winter?

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 9:19:36 PM

I thought it was a great thread Rogue. Does your wife get worried when she can't find the mustard in the fridge.

Oh and Tank Girl btw, the fact that you cant sorta make out that fine line about what may or may not be objectionable to kids, why don't you ask yours?

LOL, interesting problem resolution, Ragu! Hmmm, might have to try that with my next girlfriend. *Sorry but you must not wear any pants until you apologize to me* heh heh heh :)

-----

Not a bad thread at all Ragu! But with any of the threads here people need to consider the readers and the readers' ages before posting. I have stories I could tell, but the best probably wouldn't be appropriate for these forums and I've forgotten most of my PG stories.

Hola!

Me personally agree with Kathy.

I wish parents would keep an eye on their children w/o us having to raise them. Any intellectual speak on real topics is very limiting when we all have to dumb down our speak to a childs level. I'm not trying to upset moderators here. The internet is full of stuff that children have no need to be part of. There are parental controls for such parents who care. It's called "parents".

Me love you all. :)

@TG and Bertha
I deleted a personal recount of of having commited 2 felonies: murder and rape. I don't know what you consider acceptable, as long as I'm a moderator those are not. Please feel free to contact DanMac in an effort to get me fired. If the PTT community likes these topics I clearly should not be a moderator.

Thursday, November 25, 2004 at 6:54:32 AM

Dash,
I never saw the posts about murder and rape, those topics are not acceptable in any thread, thank you for removing them.

AZ
My oldest is six years old. He is not allowed in forums at this age, nor will he be allowed when he is 10. Since I know that I cannot sit over my kids shoulders every second they use the computer, I carefully filter where my kids can go online. An open forum, even a moderated forum like PTT is not a place for kids.
My children are lucky enough to live in an environment where we openly discuss what it is to be human, to make mistakes and learn from them. One of the best validations I have received as a mother is from a kindergarten class project titled "I love my mother because...". My son's answer was "I love my mother because she admits when she made a mistake". My son was five at the time... His answer blew me away. I don't think enough parents want to show their humanity to their children. We are not perfect beings. So, in answer to your question, yes, I tell my children about mistakes that I made as a kid, it helps them to know that I made some of the same mistakes that they are making now.... They realize that they aren't "broken" and that other people (even their mom) can make the same mistakes.

Regarding this forum, this should not be a place for kids, plain and simple. As mentioned above, the moderators are not supposed to be parenting the kids here. The parents should not allow their underaged kids here in the first place.

I realize that last statement will ruffle the feathers of the under-16 group in the forum, but I don't think you should be spending so much time on the computer anyway..... I think the kids should be spending their developmental years in the physical world, with minimal time in the virtual world.

ROGUE
I think this is a great idea for a thread. It is apparently a bit more tricky than you could have imagined eh?

Happy Thanksgiving Katherine to you and your family!

I agree with you about kids on the net Kate.

As far as the forum goes, it is what it is, a melting pot of gamers. I do think it's important to be mindful at least that young children are here. Situations could exist in their lives where actually spending time gaming is whole lot safer and fun than going outside their houses. Things happen and sometimes kids don't have a choice in regards to their environment. I'd rather err on the side of decency here. I think for myself it would be too disrespectful not too.

That being said, what's wrong with this topic? IMHO Nothing. Mark Twain made a career out of this topic practically.

I agree with TG on kids getting out and doing. After years of rock-climbing, running, skiing, snowboarding and kayaking my body is trashed: bad knee, bad shoulder, bad back. That's why I'm here. If I was young and healthy I'd be out tearing it up. Hit the bricks young'uns. Use the best toy you have while you have it.

Thursday, November 25, 2004 at 9:52:01 AM

TY TG :)

Oh yeah the topic. Hmm the funny ones ended usually in some admonishment from the local authorities. My youth was pretty much typical SF valley stuff. We were all Spicoli's. Kinda like "Dude where's my guitar"?

Friday, November 26, 2004 at 4:42:52 AM

Max,
WOW. Now that I see what the story is, I am kind of surprised at how things spiraled out of control in this thread. I had never seen your original post regarding "rape & murder" so I was only able to respond to what is in this thread and what I was emailed. In your original post, did you define both acts in the same manner that you did in this last post? If so, it is even harder for me to believe that you would be attacked for this story.

I am sorry to see what has happened to you here Max.

Katherine (Who made much worse mistakes when I was a kid)

Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 10:00:57 AM

Interesting how you rephrase and clarify here Max. In your first post you gave just enough information to indicate you commited 2 felonies leaving out all the extenuating circumstances . Then you come back in this post with a totally different spin on things. If you're first post had been like the above it would not have been deleted and you could have saved us all a lot of trouble. Don't play the bait and switch game with me. All the mods including DanMac can still see the deleted post I've also forwarded it to TG since she seems interested.

Well, my friends thought it would be really fun to go steal tire caps u no the little black things u twist off to put the air in....welll there 8 balls and chrome and all these other kinds so while borrowing them without asking at a local college the cops came...lets just say in this case bikes beat cop cars...heres a less intense one at one time me and my friend decided to make a jump on a ski slope we went down the slope 1 quarter of the way...stopped took of our skis and started building it was impressive we thought we patted it down to make it packed down and sturdy we went up to the top I volunteered to go first when I got to the jump it wasnt sturdy like we thought, my skiis broke through it and I was caught off guard and went down the rest of the icy slope on my head.

I was delivering a jacket to my bro on bike, the jacket got caught in the spokes. The bike stop suddenly, and I went flying five yards and the bike went flying in the air.

But that wasn't the end,the bike LANDED on my head of all places! Lucky I wore a helmet. ;)

Other then that,I am a sensible person. :)

Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 1:48:14 PM

I was the youngest of 6 kids and grew up on a farm. Statistically, I'm suprised I made it past 12.

Growing up in rural North Carolina, I had a very large area to roam. My typical stomping ground was pretty much a 1.5 mile radius from my home.
As I grew a little older, my friends and I had either 3 wheelers or dirt bikes and could venture even farther from home,

One day we took one of the many trails near my home that we had not ridden for a few months. After a mile or two, we see the trail is blocked by a large fence. Really large.

The fence looks like a tennis court fence but it's about 20 ft high and the poles look like light poles. We are all very curious as to who has decided to block our access to this trail so efficiently.

We scale the fence and climb over.

We are in a fairly dense stand of trees, mostly big elms and hickory trees, Typical "in -the-woods" kind of scene. Just past the fence the land sort of drops away into a ravine, maybe a 150ft down slope on each side. We start down the slope toward the low part of the ravine. About half way down we hear a low thump-thump-thump rumbling.
At first I think it's a Cobra helicopter coming out of Ft Bragg but it's not long before we see the source of the noise.

Looking to our far left we see about 30 full grown Buffalo running down the ravine. We are frozen and wide eyed and they are already on us before we could even run.

10-15 go by us straight down the middle of the ravine and only about 75ft away....and we can't believe our eyes.

One of my buddies says "let's get out of here" and immediatley the herd speeds up except for one buffalo,( of course the biggest one) He trots to a stop and turns to see what the movement up the hillside is. He snorts once and does a head bob, and then starts running full speed at us.

I think it took me 15 seconds to run that 75ft or so uphill in ankle-high leaves and scale that fence. We got on our bikes and go the heck out of there.

We found out later that we had found the holding lands for the soon to be constructed NC zoological park. One of the first zoos to have open plains exhibits where animals are free to graze hundreds of acres. (Good thing we didn't get into the rhino or elephant areas.)

We didnt tell our parents until much much later.

Of course that's one story of many....

Wow, that's an interesting story sniper! I thought buffalos were extinct. LOL We have the Wild Animal Park here in San Diego, which is also an open plains zoo. They don't have buffalo, but it's about as close to an African Safari as you're gonna get here in the United States.

@ Max, I feel your pain bro, but please don't bail on us. You're free to speak your mind as you see fit. For the most part, if we see something that's inappropriate, we'll just edit it instead of deleting it all together. I read that post of yours and didn't think it was too bad. There were a few things I probably would've edited, but that's about it.

Dash is the strictest of the bunch and we all unanimously agree that it's important to have him on the team for that very reason. But Tally Ho, Hugobrain, Lonewolf, and everyone else are pretty easy going. Had one of us gotten to that post before Dash, it probably would've just gotten edited.

Please don't bail on us. It's all good! We respect and appreciate your participation in this community!
