I think I was in that game with you and I share your frustration. It's amazing how you can be playing an enjoyable game of scrum and have it turn to poop as soon as those parasites join.
I have to wonder whether a moderated server solution would solve most of the problems.
You'll come back. They all come back!
No, unlike other people I stick to my promises and keep them. I allready e-mailed bravetree my displeasure (whatever good that will do) and decided that it isn't worth playing anymore when I cannot enjoy myself and have good games ruined by so few people who dont even buy the game
Well I hate to say it, but you arent going to find hardly any games where this wont happen.....but at least in those there are vote-boot features, and admins....
Sorry to see you go van. Take care buddy
I myself am also leaving as soon as one of these jobs starts.....hopefully within 2 weeks...i dont enjoy the game as much as I once did. I also am leveling off on improving my skills. I can usually hold my own in any game at anytime. Its getting old and most of the people I enjoy playing with are gone. For me its not about winning anymore..its about the quality of play I get with the people online...i expect good competition in singles BM or scrum..cant hardly get that these days...
I cant hardly play indie scrum without 5 guys hunting me down and 2 campers and verbal abuse...hate mail is getting out of control....lag is also a problem for me as this dang game requires too much bandwidth from the server and ALL the clients and thats too much to ask most of the time.
One short term solution is to play Team Scrum. No demos there...BUT many of the assholes are registered players and will follow you around. Homelan's servers suck and the private servers are run by people who enjoy booting and are usually full. Im also not very patient with noobs.
CTF is usually empty and is full of team killers. Survivor is full of team shooters, edge dwellers and morons. Battlemode can be cool but as soon as u dominate you have to take on 6 people who want to team up against u.
My favorite is Leopard's lair. Most of the crap that happens in other games doesnt apply here. Lately there are an awful lot of team killers out there and people who try and take your kill and land half their bullets into u instead of the smoker...morons
Hopefully the next TT release:
-the bandwidth issue will be addressed
-demos MUST stop after 1 hour of play
-more servers with admins

I know van but a lot of poeple before you have said these exact same words only to return after a short time.
We all have to deal with these people. But there sre still times when we have fun. Sometimes late at night you might even catch a game filled with players everyone wants to play.
I think the admin thing could be solved with an update. We really need an update with a few new features to keep the game fun, and alive. There should also be (as well as a vote-boot) a vote admin after the preveouse(sp?) admin leaves. So say Bolo is the curent admin and he has to leave, well as soon as he leaves a little message appears at the bottom that says "Type /admin_players name to vote in a new admin" and whoever gets the most votes is the admin until they leave, or the admin could type "/nadmin_player name" and that could be like the next admin. I can also see where this would go wrong, lets say a DEMO(ATTACK) comes in and 4 other DEMO(ATTACK) come in, well if the admin leaves then a demo attack could be voted in and boot everyone. But I think it would work in most cases. It would also be fun to have an admin be able to silence players. So BT, consider doing an update with some admin features and maybe a new map or something so that the game can stay alive!

Remember VB, to be hunted down is a honour. Who's chasing down lame-assers? Who would?
I have no problems w/ the dorks who try to foil the game. All you need to do at that point is outsmart them somehow, or move to another game. Makes for a challenge. I have issues with newbies (in CTF) on my team who when you're scoring in the goal, think it's necessary to take the scrum from you and play around outside of the goal. Or better yet, when newbie teammates shoot me 'cause they want the scrum. That really bites my nads (in a bad way.)
Chop! Chop!
You could find someone like Prey, Azazel, or Slugthog, etc. To host a server with a password. I'm sure Prey, Az, snd Sluggy have Admin tools in thier servers.
If your ever in one of my servers and someone is trash talking you I'll be sure to boot 'em for ya. ;)
I learned the easy way to boot players from my server yesterday. I booted demo attack 4 times in two consecutive games and he didn't come back after that. Admin servers work! It was sooo nice to be able to play unmolested by the punk. Woohoo!
Then I banned the IP of DA and porkchop (both da cleaner) using my router software. It was very nice indeed to play all morning without da cleaner.
The name of my server is cornfield in Iowa. Maybe I should change it to CLEANED...LOL ;)

Wheres the server and when is it up BC?
Oh btw, I did get a reply back from BT, specifically Joe Maruschak. I have a lot more respect for the company, and Thinktanks after that E-mail. And looking forward to what will come.
@ at all,
I am thinking of launching a 2nd server soon. However it will probably be pass-worded to people of quality, I too am tired of the team killing morons out there. I donated the lair to the players for enjoyment not for stupdity , sigh. And as a admin, yes I can boot people , but I would have to be on it all the time to. And I like to beat up other victims too much to play babysitter. So voice here to me if this seem like a palitable idea in which some of the old timers and quality players might be interested in.

What did Joe have to say?
Gnomie, he talked about the company, and what they are doing, and wanted to do. It ws nice that he spent the time to send a really nice in depth e-mail to me. Otherwise nothing special.

@ Van
Glad to hear of the response from Joe. I have always find the BT folks to be very responsive and concerned about their products and those who use them (as in us).
There are, of course, just a few of them (3, I believe) and they are very busy and overstretched and therefore unable to respond to everyone's wishes and complaints.
Glad he took the time to address your issues as they are important ones, and you are an important member of "the community".
Play in selective servers at selective times of the day/night might be the way to go. At least until more structural solutions are addressed.
@Leopard
I want to thank you for your hosting the Lair. Efforts such as yours raise the overall fun factor in playing.
@ Paco
Have you been on a cleansing fast since the smore orgy you went on in the TT 1st anniversary game? Lol
The admin script (with booting capabilities) could be share by some trusted long time players.
For instance on these forums a handful of players (including me) have been given 'moderator' status by -z-. This means I can edit lame ass posts. I did it 3 times, twice for unruly language and once to shorten a post with too many redundancies.
Anyway, a script given to some old timers could work. Morons, beware!
@Van,
Yes, Joe from BT is very cool. I've contacted him before and included our correspondence in the TT Police thread here:
http://supra.planetthinktanks2.com/archives/comm-thread.asp?thread=1035&forum=4
It's near the bottom, so scroll down a bit.
I sent them suggestions from my Wish List thread which included improving methods for moderating the games.
I'm not sure if people realize it, but DEMOs cannot play Team Scrum Frantic or Spooky. That's why those of use who host scrum servers usually set them for TS (frantic). If you see one of those (usually evening PST) jump in for some fun! Maybe a couple of the std shockwave servers could be set up for frantic all the time.

All they do is add a bit more challenge to top notch players of the game. Sometimes I'd prefer to have one or two in there... Especially over bots.

Click on the period on Van's last post!
What? It is just a regular period silly
I've played many an online gameand they ALL have lamers! The only games where you don't hear from lamers are those without easy chat. COnstantly leaving good games to buy another online game is pointless because there will always be scum floating around with no purpose but to ruin it for others. The solution is to make some good friends and stick to them. 1 wanker is little consequence when surrounded by 4 good buddies.
I understand leaving TT out of boredom, lack of time, or it conflicts with a new addiction, but I doubt you will find better people in some other game compared to who you'll find in good ol' Think Tanks, Van!

Problem is, I want to get in and play team games, and with other better players. But I can only play during the early afternoon and late mornings (11am-6pm EST) and most everyone gets on well after that
The worst game I have ever played with people trash talking and such has got to be CS for PC, it isnt quite as bad on XBL.

Sorry folks, but I have gotten real tired of the lamers who play TT only to ruin it for everyone else. The ATTACKS, DA CLEANERs, JFDNY, and others like them most of whom don't even bother to buy the game. They are driving away potetional customers, and driving away paying customers of bravetree.
After one game of scrum having one person make it his personal mission to hunt me down... While I was dealng with my mouse acting up, dying, and then trying ot get used to a trackball mouse mid game. I finally had it. Im done, I'm through with this game, it isn't enjoyable enough for me anymore to put up with these pre-pubesent, brain dead, assholes that enjoy other peoples misery.
Bravetree needs a vote kick option before I even bother to think about playing anymore.
