How common is this in people and do you have any of these traits in yourself?

Paranoid Personality Disorder

1.suspects, without sufficient basis, that others are exploiting, harming, or deceiving him or her
2.is preoccupied with unjustified doubts about the loyalty or trustworthiness of friends or associates
3.is reluctant to confide in others because of unwarranted fear that the information will be used maliciously against him or her
4.reads hidden demeaning or threatening meanings into benign remarks or events
5.persistently bears grudges, i.e., is unforgiving of insults, injuries, or slights
6.perceives attacks on his or her character or reputation that are not apparent to others and is quick to react angrily or to counterattack

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

I am actually half paranoid. I have been medically confirmed as, while not severe, paranoid. It is kinda wierd, actually. I keep thinking people say I am stupid or I suck at life or somthing. Gets really frustrating. Also, at home, somtimes I get the feeling somone is wathcing me. This has not bathered me lately, and I now have a vareity of weapons scattered around the house :P Some say it is just my overactive imaginiation though...

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Good post, thats one of the things I was reading about is that some kids with vivid imaginations when young can grow up to be paranoid in ways that really do not effect them socialy but does bother them inside.

That whole watching me thing? *Shiver*

Friday, July 21, 2006 at 6:33:55 AM

Tsk Tsk warfare... A switchblade? I have a four in. Hunting kinfe, 3 in. Pocket knife, two 1.5 in. Pocket knives, a leatherman with a 3.5 in. Blade, an airsoft gun that, at close range, could do a little bit of damage, a bb gun that, at any range in my house, could hurt like hell. I also have some replica guns for intimidation. Also, I have a baseball bat in each room that I spend time in. I also know how to jerry rig a grenade out of an areosol can and duct tape, and kep a nice supply of firecracker in my room. Then there is the machete I found in the bushes behind my house. I keep that in the knife droor. I know exactly where my dad's.22 is, as well as his shotgun and Thirty Ought Six. I know basic matrial arts and knife fighting, too. In every pen keeping spot in our haouse, there are special steel tipped pecils. So I guess I am kiinda paranoid... :P

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

-z-

I think everyone is a little bit paranoid about something or other.

While in the UK, I had mild paranoia about being watched.. But then again I think that was just induced by the sheer number of CCTV cameras everywhere in the UK - particularly London: streets, roads, motorways, shops, banks, supermarkets, offices, heck they are probably a bit like spiders.. For every one that you see, you *just know* that there are at least another dozen that you can't see.

Here in China however, I thought I'd said goodbye to all that paranoia - seeming as there are almost no CCTV cameras here, but instead of it just being vapourised, it has mutated somewhat. The internet is one of the most closely censored and monitored things here, so the paranoia has now shifted from my real-self being watched and monitored, to my cyber-self (if you will) being followed and watched. Not that there's anything to hide as such.. Just that I believe privacy is a very important human right.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Friday, July 21, 2006 at 10:35:33 AM

I think everyone has made some good points, I would agree with -z- for the simple fact in reading up on this I have found many articles that say just that. Even when you look in a mirror to check your hair is a paranoid reaction. So we all are paranoid in some way or another.

Even when you look in a mirror to check your hair is a paranoid reaction.

You mean the hair growing out of the back of our ears right?
:)

Gamera, I know your not a spammer. It was just a statement cause the number of posts. Nothing to worry about.

GQ. I can relate with your post.
Sadly it involves everyday life with most people anymore.
I miss the good ole days! :)

Friday, July 21, 2006 at 9:36:17 PM

@fish
Read the whole thread if you want to know what I was looking for. If you read it and still don't have a clue, then I really do not know what to tell you.

@KKB,
Well I wasn't around in the old days, but do you think kids are more paranoid now then they were back then? I really am curious. I see alot of kids in there teen years really freak out over who and what is doing what to others or them. Kids now seem to think everything relates to them and that all topics are about them. It is really just amazing how kids and or teens seem to think so much. Maybe it is because they spend so much time alone, either playing games or watching t.v, that they have very deep thoughts that become real life in a way. Do kids minds have imaginations as vivid as back say 20 years ago, or are there imaginations based on what they see or hear from games and or t.v. So in thinking this way are paranoid ppl. Paranoid in a differant way and in differant extremes? Does the word paranoid have the same meaning as it did 20 years ago? What was being paranoid then is maybe common every day life now.

I know you have all the research, but...

You never think that everyone is out to get you- I do occasionally
You never look at yourself in the mirror- I do
You never get nervous around cameras- When it is somone else's
You never walk around with a weapon- I do
You never fear that you will be banned for an accident- I do
You never get nervous around a person with authority (cops, boss, teacher, etc..)- depends
You never take a bath (not paranoid about people or germs)- SHower every day. I just thought that was nromal
You never brush you teeth (no paranoid about tooth loss)- Twice a day... Once again, normal
You never change you clothes (not paranoid about fashion)- This one, I must say, I do not care about
You never climb out the window after spending time with 44's wife.- Good times... Good times.
You never count calories- Nope
You never exercise- I do
You never worry about the stuff growing in RX's beard-...
You never worry that anything you write on the internet will lead to your demise- People have been trying... I KNOW!

Soo.... Uh... Who is that outside my window again.

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Another question,
Do you think peer presure cause's kids and or adults to be paranoid?

Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 9:07:35 AM

GQ,
I don't thinks that that kids (or adults) are any more paranoid now than they were 20 years ago. The difference is communication. With the internet, we have instsant comm. With people all over the world. Issues and feelings are expressed and sent worldwide which makes them seem to be on the increase. The need to be accepted has always been around. Why else would our founding fathers wear those horible powdered wigs??? G

Chuck

Sunday, July 23, 2006 at 7:25:04 AM

Good point Chuck,
The net does give access to many many people that kids 20 years ago did not have. I am wondering about something I read in an article that said kids become paranoid due to lack of communication with many differant types of people. So with the net and so many people being thrust at the kids you would think that the paranoid problem would be on the decrease. But it is not any differant now statisticly then it was 20 years ago.
So my wondering is paranoid = shy? Or shy = paranoid? Or neither.. I personally am not shy by any means, but do feel I have some paranoid feelings at times.
So is the term paranoid used incorrectly where shyness should be used.? Or is the term shyness used incorrectly where paranoid should be used?
