Hi All,

This is an e-mail that I sent to a local Linux User Group:-

A couple of days I purchased a copy of SuSe 10 from an authorised dealer. I
installed SuSe via the DVD, and SuSe was automatically installed as a 64 bit
version. Hardware detection was flawless, and everything runs very well.

I tried to install a simple game (www.planetthinktanks.com) via a sh script
installed but all I got was an error:-

> linux:/home/username # sh ThinkTanks_v1.1.sh.bin
> Verifying archive integrity... All good.
> Uncompressing ThinkTanks............................
> This installation doesn't support glibc-2.1 on Linux / x86_64
> (tried to run setup.gtk)

> Detecting libc...
> Binary file /lib/libc.so.6 matches
> Detected: os=Linux, arch=x86_64, libc=glibc-2.1
> linux:/home/username #

In order to install the game I logged in as a superuser, typed in my details.
I then verified, by typing ls, that I was trying to run the game in the right
folder, and then typed sh ThinkTanks_v1.1.sh.bin to run the installer.

Frustrated, I re-formatted my hard drive, then re-installed SuSe via 5 CD,
which is the 32-bit version. Upon initial installation SuSe indicated that I
should install the 64-bit version as opposed to the 32-bit version.

I proceed with the installation to find that SuSe was crashing not long after
I was trying to use my desktop.

I have two desktops, so with my laptop, which I run Windows *cough cough*, I
downloaded Kubuntu, which is what I am running on my desktop, and I
everything seems to be working fine.

I am curious to know why I am getting these errors?? This is a description of
the hardware I have:-

> I have a Gigabyte Technology P4 Titan Series. Model Name:- GA-8S661FXM-775

Is there a 32-bit emulator that I can install that will allow me to install
this game? Or is there a different command line that I can use to install
this game?

And this is the response I got:-

You can just install a 32bit install which will
solve your problem. However it would seem that your
cpu has the emt64 extensions (something like that)

Ideally you should run a 64bit linux install. The
perfomance will be much better.

Youll need to set up a.

There should be suse documentation. But otherwise
you can just install a full 32bit install.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can get 32bit chroot or install 32bit compat libraries to run 32bit aps???

I am currently running Kubuntu, but I am seeking to return to SuSe once I have this small issue solved as I can't play TT on my desktop!!!

Thanks

SK

TT is not compiled for 64 bit. The installer is looking for 32 bit "stuff". One way is to somehow have the installer recognize the X86_64 files. I have no idea how do that.

@ NUTS!,

Thanks for the help! I have found this link (click here) from the Gentoo forums, and it explains in some depth how to go through the process, however I am trying to find an easier way.
