It's not to tough to get grades up if you are willing to do the homework. So get to work! XD

^ Most of the time homework is 20% of your grade so....

LGM

So that 20% is for you doing the practice. The real scores happen in class, with tests, projects and assignments.

If you don't practice, how are you supposed to do well on the real thing? How well you do on the practice lets your teachers see how you are doing. If they see there is a misunderstanding, they can help correct it.

If you don't do the HW, they get no info and have to make a guess on your readiness for the real thing. Do the work.

(Any idea how many free throws NBA players take in a week outside of games? They practice.)

I guess I count in class assignments as "homework" too. Add in easy points like attendance, it's not hard to get better than an F if you try a little. (Maybe I went to an easy school.)

On the tests, don't randomly throw 4's in there. The teacher might mark down for that. :P

I get F's in Algebra but I still have a C lol. Homework REALLY does help to make up for the tests, reviews, and whatever else

Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 6:43:02 PM

Thanks Heaven I'm out of school! %) But I'm still way too involved with work to be free... :(

Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 7:03:07 PM

Lol. Somewhat good somewhat bad huh?

Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 7:30:25 PM

By the way the proper writing is 'allowed' and not 'aloud'.

I don't know what's your age or anything, but one thing is sure: it's useful to have proper orthography. I found that paying attention to a word's etymology is the most useful way to learn and remember how to write and use new words.

Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 8:47:29 PM

As opposed to attending to one's entomology which oft leaves one scratching.

...

Seriously - if you have not yet figured it out - going to school is about learning things. If you aren't learning those things then you are not doing your job. Folks who don't do their job seldom get paid. The payment for doing the job of going to school is opportunity to engage in various kinds of social and play activities. A further payment for doing well at the job of going to school is the opportunity to not spend one's life working at Mickey Dee's.

Ignorance in not amusing, nor is it profitable. Ignorant people are always at the mercy of the unscrupulous and the dishonest. Ignorant people have few choices in their lives. The phrase in statistics for choices is "degrees of freedom'. Ignorant people have fewer degrees of freedom. Ignorant people are less free. Ignorance and freedom are mutually exclusive choices.

...granpa sluggy who long ago chose freedom...

^That movie must rock so hard. <slobber>

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

^^ Lol, when I first heard "etymology" I mixed it up with "entomology"...

Oh and while we are nitpicking, the proper writing for numbers under 10 is to write them out... ;)
Do that homework, use that study hall, use that lunch period!

Is da rite? Thus in a text you'd write: 'there was nine or ten campers, but I scored 11 goals? :o
Neat rule. Where can I see this? Thanks!

Ben

Nuh nuh no isn't it like, write out numbers all the time if you're doing an essay/thesis/lit paper or something like that. Twenty-five, nine, eighteen... And if you're doing a science report, you'd use the actual numbers. 25, 9, and 18. I KNOW you don't mix and match between writing out numbers and using the actual number. I got chewed out for that two weeks ago... Apparently you pick your course and stick with it. UNLESS you're writing about a play for example... "The word cacophony is found five times between lines 20 and 28 of Act II". God this stuff is so complicated. I should stick to something nice and easy like...geometry. Riiiight.

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 7:49:09 AM

Cool Ben. Makes sense too. The way I use it is depending on the context:
-Oh! Darling! You're my 1 and only 1! (seems like advertizing, not romance!)
- Pittsburg scored ninety-seven goals in the third period, including a last goal at nineteen minute and fifty-seven seconds. Player number one hundred twenty-eight scored most of the goals. (lol tedious)

God this stuff is so complicated

haha yes life certainly is no child play! or is it?

That's it, I'm giving up on English. I say we switch this forum over to esperanto. Who's with me?

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 10:56:25 AM

I say it should be auf deutsch.

^^^^ This is what my English teachers have been telling me.

I've been told that you should write out numbers less than 100... Ah, who knows...

Of course, there are several different sets of standards on all these things, MLA format, APA format, and on and on...

Here's a scan from one our school's textbooks...

I prefer to look that stuff up. I can't remember all the differences and conditions for those things.

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 3:25:16 PM

I just ask my teacher,"Should I wright out my numbers, or put the sympol instaed Mr. Rollickolo?"

PS. That is his name! XD XD XD

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 4:25:59 PM

Did you misspell his name as badly as you did "write", "symbol" & "instead"?

Lesson One: Always read what you have written before you post.

Lesson Two: Learn to use a dictionary to confirm your spelling - there are several dictionaries on the internet that are accessible without leaving your browser.

Lesson Three: When you find a mistake in an earlier post take the time to correct it.

Ignorance ain't amusing! Laziness wastes everyone's time!

...granpa sluggy...

Lesson Four: (with sluggy's blessing, I hope)

Do not ask your teacher to do things for you that you can do yourself. Look it up. It's easy, and prevents you from becoming one of those mush-for-brains students. Don't give youth a bad name.

BTW, I fixed three of my own errors before pushing "submit".

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 5:56:15 PM

Thanks LGM for scanning this! I'll put that in my references. It's the most comprehensive answer so far. :)

Numbers are a piece of cake if got any common sense.

PS. Lgm ain't it illegal to photocopy a part of schoolbook to digital view. XD

^ uh... What? I can't hear you... Can I claim "fair use"? (don't tell, OK?) %)

So... Now do I leave it or remove it? Or cite it in APA format?
