Fellas a good card goes for about $75 usd
a great card for 125 - 150
Make sure u read your motherboard manual before u buy something that wont fit
If your mb manual says 4x AGP then dont buy a 8x cuz it wont work
Swap out is a matter of switching the card out or installing and turning off the onboard graphics
Then u install software drivers from the supplied CD
Some stores will install it for a small fee

Absolute top o' the line will set you back $500... (Geforce 6800 Ultra from nVidia, X800XT PE from ATi)

Perhaps the card currently out that gives the most 'bang for your buck' is the Geforce 6600GT...runs about $220, and will play HalfLife2 and Doom3 nicely.

A $100 card (i.e. Geforce 5500) will play TT quite well, but I wouldn't count on playing a high-end game like Doom or halflife on it...

Do some searches on google for nvidia or ati benchmarks...Theres tons of info out there if you look. ;)

OR you can buy a Mac and get a ATI Radeon 9800 (best you can get) built-in!!!

Is that true nick?

The Power Mac G5 comes with a Radeon 9600 (one step lower), and the eMac G4 ($799) comes with a Radeon 9200 video card. But you can also customize your Mac and have it ship witha built in Radeon 9800 video card! (I don't like nVidia cards, so I'll leave those alone...)

9800 is in the previous generation of ATi cards...

Newest ones are the X300, X600 and X800.

I think ATi also has an as-of-yet unreleased card that should be due out soon (Codenamed R420, or something like that) that will offer some competetion for the 6800GT and 6800 Ultra from nVidia... Both of which consistantly beat out ATi's current top of the line card, the x800 XT PE.
