YOU HAVE TO INSTALL ALL THE FILES FROM THE PRELOAD YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD ROLLERBALL IN GAME THERE IS TO MUCH NEW STUFF
Thats why we have made the pre-load, if you choose not to follow the instructions and not install the files that is up to you but dont complain you cant get in. If you follow the install guide and place the files where they need to go you will be able to enter stright away. This preload has been tested many times and its works perfectly - why deviate from what it tells you to do, man we could have not made it any easier :(

Some of the things, I didn't know where to put. I don't know where that guide is that your talking about so I emailed CS instead. I'll get it on my own. ThinkTanks is not my thing when it comes to computers.
Where's the predownload?
So, is RollerBall a game? Or a map... From looking at the screenshots, I'm thinking it's a map... Why's it called RollerBall?

I take it that CS sent you his download link - I have just checked it and his version does not contain all the stuff - Please check you email for the correct link

All invites have now been sent - I know there are plenty of people who want to play however you will have to wait another couple of weeks until genberal release. At that time Roo will be hosting in the States and I will have upgraded my UK server.
To those who have tested RollerBall and help with the tweaking of the game - thank you ;)

YES! I AM SENSITIVE! THANKS FOR NOTICING! I've worked on this gametype for over 6 monthes, and it has hit some extremes hards for me and Daz. You can expext a whole lot more from me.

THANKS FOR TELLING ME!!!! When I play, the everyone scores extremely often, and yes... It is a challenge, maybe too much for you. And I hope you aren't considering yourself a master scrummer, because believe me, the master scrummers who have played here have played in our test server have scored plenty of times... So its just you.

This game IS team scrum with opposite goals. Throw in some colors and timers and you have rollerball.

The problem is that no modders have figured out a way to change the size of the scrum goal OR to have 2 goals active at the same time...except for -z- and thats because he has the scripts from BT

But for 6 months time you could have created your own torque game and made it the way u wanted to with less workarounds

My opinion after testing a bit in the server
This truly has brought Think Tanks to the next level. If we could come up with something like this, then we could surely come up with plenty of other gametypes as well (I've got a few ideas of my own...). The sounds, powerups, graphics(especially), and game plot is all incredibly well thought out. My absolute only concern is that will the young/noobish generation of TT play hard and not mess it up for those who want a fun game? This is happening in TS, which a locked server is being put up, and this this is far more complex, a game would be easy for a noob to screw up. Not saying a noob would curse and teamkill, that's what we have the admin script for, but plainly understanding and remembering things. But hey, you guys can't prevent that and neither can anyone else who brings up a server.

CS you are my friend, a telented scriptor and fellow creator of RollerBall, please understand everyone is entitled to their opnion. At least he made the effort to take a look and post his comments good or bad, and he is the one to not really like our game so far, just look at all the positive comments they by far our weigh the negative ones. We did good partner, we did good XD

I think RollerBall is nice. It's different than other mods. Usually mods paste on a new terrain and add on the glitter and presto, a mod. However, RollerBall is very unique. One of the best mods I've seen so far! Oh and hey, Bolo, Dazzle and CS worked extreamly hard on this mod, maybe throw in some positives about the mod?

Yes I think the lag question will be interesting. I did a fast fps check, was pretty much in llne with other mods. I think because they are smaller maps and really don't have a ton of different objects it might be ok. I just wonder when you get a full server and people are all using the mod pups, might get a little laggy then.
Use 'echo([CADD].getPacketLoss());' from the terminal. Then we'll see who's REALLY causing the lag.
I think Bolo's just being a stuck-up, hypocritical, insensitive jerk. Make your own gametype, then say that this isn't good enough for you. It's not a whole new game, but it's one of the biggest extensions to this one that we'll get.
PS: I could also host in the US. I don't care if I have to clone my whole TT directory to keep this and DJ's 24/7 up at once.
PS2: I'm not just impressed- I'm insipred. I might try my hand at making a major gametype.

^^ Yes will be interesting to see although we have played with 8 on the map and all seemed ok. I have made every effort to reduce the number of objects on each map. As I have made all the dts objects it has been easy to combine object together, so instead of having say 10 in a line I have made them as one single piece. For example the arena walls on all the maps are only made up of 8 objects where the original versions were in the region of 80!! Even on my machine this made a massive difference to the first versions of the game. I wrote this in another thread you may find it of interest as I discovered it is not only the actual visable object tham may cause lag and put a strain on the engine but the invisable part as well. From developing the objects for this game I would say its as important to have a very low poly collision mesh as it is to have a nice looking object in the game.
Just something else you may find of interest, I was reading through the torque documentation a week or so ago and it would seem that althought the engine has to draw objects, it is not only the visable object that draws engine power, its also the collision mesh that surrounds the object that also puts a strain on the engine. For example I made little test map and put 100 objects on it that had collision meshes and then did the same object on the same map but without collision meshes and the difference was very clear both in terms of fps and performance. From doing this test I rebuilt all the objects on the 4 rollerball maps I am currently working on and I tell you the performance of all 4 maps shot through the roof!! On average I reduced the number of objects, and by default the number of collision, meshes on each map by 70% - Am I glad I found this out - you bet ya!!!
I used a programme called 3D studio Max to create most of the dts objects for RollerBall, as it gives far more control over the structure and placement of collision meshes than other 3D programmes such as milkshake. Max also seems to export the shapes as smaller files than milkshake, plus its an unreal piece of software and I have really enjoyed learning the basics of this programme.

Tried it yesterday, played solo unfortunately, on Madrid.
Nice graphics, new power-ups are fun (but I wish I could try them on real targets!) ;) The game type is simple enough too. New objects are great! I can see lots of work was put in this! Yeah for new weaponry.
My feedbacks: 20 sec is too short to get the goal, should be 30s, 45s or even 1 minute - even while playing solo, 20s wasn't enough to score!
Also there's something about Air Goals that I don't like - especially when there's only 1 arrow to take!
More when I play team like 3-3 or 4-4 :)
Installation involves lots of files but is clear enough. Indeed one wants to follow all the instructions carefully. Lots of new files there!

The 20 sec timeframe active when only 1 player is in the server is there so as to keep the scores *relatively* low until more people should arrive. :) (They actually used to be only 15sec!)
It was stated earlier in the thread why it was so, but I suppose I can post it here just to save you the searching ;)
When there's only 1 person in the Rollerball server the time is limited to a very short period of time. On the larger Rollerball maps, this short amount of time makes it very difficult (if not impossible) to score goals. Because the lone person cannot score goals, when other people come to join (let's say, 10 minutes after the first person had joined) the overall scores for the teams are still low, thus it isn't Blue-21 Green-0 and greenteam has to fight it's way the rest of the match to catch up to the score one person accumulated while playing alone. When more people enter the server, the time alotted for scoring goals goes up from 20 to 40 (I think) and from there by 10 or 20 seconds for each player joined. B)

Okay, just to explain it to you guys, when you enter the server and dazz is sleeping, his server seems to lag extremely, this causing the server to slow, and even the gametype to run slowly.... So you arent get the full.

I tell you, I worry a lot that people are going to join dazz's server when its not running well, and that makes it seem less good.... I hope that isnt the case for you. BUT, you should really try playing with more people... Its GREAT XD

Hey folks. Ok I read the thread and thanks for pointing out the 20s - 40s thing Feather & co. This said I still think more time is better, maybe 1-2 minutes, i.e it's hard enough to score given any time limit, especially against seasoned foes. Anyway I need to try it with multiplayer to really see! :)
At CS & Daz, yes I can appreciate the fact you don't want to release it until the beta is fool proof, thus saving the dread of having to reload the games. Looks good to me so far. If there's any minor upgrade to do can't they be done when you join a game? (instead of full DL and re-install)
I think you should do the release asap, unless there are some specific updates you have to do. When the TT masses will play you'll have lots of feedbacks.

Ok people we are very nearly done - Canned has nearly finished the New RollerBall admin script and we should be ready to rock and roll sometime next week when Rooster returns.
Big thanks to all those who have tested RollerBall, there has been some great suggestion most of which have been implemented ready for the main release.
I will have the website done by the end of the weekend so you will be able to download the RollerBall preload and get ready to play.

ROLLERBALL WILL BE ON GENERAL RELEASE SOMETIME AROUND THE 5TH-8JULY AND WILL BE HOSTED IN THE USA AND THE UK
Final testing and previews will be held between now and general release and will be by invitation only , please dont ask me or Canned Splam to be a tester as the answer will be no.
Myself and Canned Splam have been working on this project for 6 months. Canned has written the entire game script and I tell you what a job that man has done, without him this project would not have been possible. He has managed to do things never seen in TT before so I hope you will all appreciate the massive amount of work he has done when you eventually get to play RollerBall.
We will make an official release thread after final testing which will include a play guide and and installation guide. But for now here are a few screenies to tease you with XD
