Page : <1> :

I have noticed lately there has been an increased amount of snipers and heavy tank players. The problem is that most of them are happy to snipe. In order to avoid being hit, you stay back, and snipe in return. This creates a dull and boring game.

I understand that there are more better players than previously, but whatever happened to the "charge" philosophy that was adopted by the forefathers of this game. Do we risk of protecting of score, and sit back and snipe?

I play with the heavy tank, and I rather renown for charging in a match. Nothing that taking the challenge to the opposing side. I know that everyone will have their personal views about this one... But if this is the way team battlemode matches are heading then... I better set the alarm to waken me up during a game.

Thats why TS rocks.

^ I agree.

Sooner or later you have got to take it to the hole!

@SK
I think most agree with you and that explains why so many of your BM brethren have made the switch to team scrum and have actually excelled at it like Ben, Napalm, LC50, NUTS, Rogue, Fatlips, dash, supra and so on. I don't know who was the first true BMer to switch to Scrum but it gave birth to the modern age of BattleScrum. Might have been Ben. If you are going to enjoy any success in scrum you better know how to use those guns!

By the way, I've seen you in scrum from time to time and you always do very well. Guess it isn't your cup of tea?
Why not? It seems to include the best of both worlds... Shooting AND driving. It also adds the excitement of scoring spectacular high flying goals!

Come give scrum another shot (no pun intended)! I've also seen AU and Willow give scrum a try but very rarely.

How about the other way from Scrum to TBM? <raise a lonely hand> Who else?

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 3:58:30 PM

I think MysteryMan has done that... And Bolo.

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 4:00:47 PM

I do it occasionally in an attempt to improve my scrum skills. I found that improving my aim has led to many more long distance kills as someone is about to go through the goal. And and easier time taking out campers.

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 4:28:03 PM

^ I do the same thing, so that it is easier to take out the campers/ goal guarders

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 4:57:09 PM

Seems more like to many smart players who don't care about fun but ok.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 7:03:41 PM

It seems like the players are just smart. They don't care about having fun.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 7:37:30 PM

I don't get it.

Why would they even play if they are not having a great time? Huh?

@ Paisano,

I do play scrum from time to time. I am true to my word, and only play it with a heavy. I use it as target practice. I only aim at the person holding the flag. If you BM me while playing scrum against me, then watch out I will BM you thorugh the game. Hanksta did this to me the other day, and from the time he BM me, he never scored a single goal, in fact he left cause he complained the server was "laggy". Moral of the story... Don't pick on the fat kid!!!

@ Jacob,

Sorry to say but you must be an idiot!!! Why would you like to play a game whereby everyone snipes to get points. Is this what you really paid $20 for, to shoot from a long distance. Beauty about BM is the ability to attack, and take the game to the opposition. There are a number of snipers out there, and the insurgence of heavy tankers is not helping.

I don't mind being targetted in a game but this is not even fun. I've had 2/3 players constantly surround me, but at least they are attacking, rather than sniping. I played a game against some person , and all he did was snipe all game. Everytime I move someone was sniping me from the back of the map. Boring!!! Anyone can do this. A real champion with be able to score while attacking, and taking to the game to the cowards whom hide.

@ MM,

I think I blame myself for this. Since I started playing in a heavy I have seen more people swap over. I could be the catalyst that started this. People see ho successful I have become, and everyone wants to better it. I have seen it many time whereby a player will swap tanks cause I am kicking their butts. There is more to a heavy tanks than sniping. Yes it is slow, but the strenght is what makes it so appealing.

Lights aka mosquitoes whom snipe.... Well I guess everyone is scared of facing a good player behind a heavy tank.

Hope things may change....

I hate when people snipe. I think they must be thinking what I said ok.

I said they wasted money and you yell at me.

EDIT: when I said they are being smart I meant if you only care about winning then they are smart.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

How about both scrum and BM? <raises hand slowly> No one?

Ah well...
I suck at sniping, so I'm probably the most enthusiastic rammer (as well as the worst player) out there.

I like chargin as some heavys may no. My aimin sucks and rarely its me target. I love chargin cause it challenges my potential against my oppenents. I may die but tat doesn't make me quit. And as fer scrum........................................................ :'(

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 10:56:17 PM

@ SK= Well, I don't play BM often, but I still believe in the old style of BM warfare (infact, I thrive on it) ;)

I like sniping as much as the other guy, but up close and personal is my BM style, after all, not many can withstand me in a dog fight XD (no, not even heavies, heavies have their weaknesses too :P B) )

**..::I am thoroughly... amused:::..**

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 11:04:08 PM

I love to just charge in and get as many kills as I can. I love killin heavies too. Lol

Friday, March 03, 2006 at 4:35:51 AM

LOL
This thread is so similar to the "you ain't playing by the (unwritten) rules" clap-trap that the scrumers hashed out a year and a half ago in the GG threads.

For real, show me the rule that says you can't camp at the scrum. It's a "Biscuit Fire!" opportunity for Pete's sake.

So now we got the oh so polite and rules oriented admins on the private servers. Don't cliff hang, don't camp, say you're sorry if you whack a teammate, and keep both hands on the keyboard and mouse. I see now that panties are getting in a bunch over aliases. Ooh, you gonna be banned over that! Fine I guess, it's their party. Luckily, most of the owners aren't always drunk and can usually be reasoned with when sober.

If you want to snipe and sip a beer then snipe. You want to charge, then charge. Hell pop yourself in a light and do it faster. Charge them fat heavies so they don't have to put the bottle down to come get you. And count yourself a friggin idiot if you are surprised that if you charge in TEAM bm and have several OPPOSING tanks jump your bean. Kinda puts the T in team. Dig it?

BTW, it was me who started recruiting the BM'ers to scrum. Former Desert Rat here. Long live the Desert Rats! Plus Tally and I taught TMO all he knows about scrum :)

I'm gonna kick your ass SK. (BTW, don't dare use that alias we might not know who you are.)

One more thing. I just gotta tell on Leopard. When I last played on the Desert Rats I was going through a fight with my ISP over high ping. They had a POS piece of equipment that needed replacing and I often would have 1000+ ping. I'm not kidding. Lep would have me play anyway even if I wasn't much better than a shooting rock. Often his "strategy" for me? "Go run up to the other team and when you are smoking enough lead the chasers back to us." Uh, OK boss. Gotta say, it worked pretty good. I think it's the name. Just gotta kill a smoking Fleabiscuit :)

@ Flea,

You are right.. There is no point using aliases (well in my case that is), everyone always seems to pick me out. I look forward to kicking your butt, and next time I will savour the victory even more so.

On a different topic, I love people whom whine when I kick their butts. I had a funny incident the other day, some person called 1monkey. Could withstand the onslaught, so like some people, the profanities start. This is so funny, but I suppose each to the own.

I am out there waiting for someone to kick my butt.... But will it be you???

This is why scrum & team scrum is better

Friday, March 03, 2006 at 11:50:10 PM

Hehe it seems you have made me want to play scrum again all! But if there is one thing you see in scrum servers all the time, (like SK said) is people unrightfully complaining about lag. Why do you people persist that you are lagging, when to every other player says you are not, and the person you are blaming on is not either? I use to enjoy the jolly fun of Bm, until players left and new players that focused on weaker prey came in. That's when I went into Team Scrum and Scrum. But unfortunately every scrum game I play is usually ruined by someone who likes to mess around in the game and does not care about what the other players think, and when people start complaining about lag. The funny thing I noticed when I play under aliases on other people's computers, is that some people come into a game, and check people's pings right away. Right after that, they say that it is lagging, and blames the person with the highest ping. This frustrates me very much, but then, not everyone thinks the same.

It is interesting that Legendary BM players are now trying out Scrum (like willow). It seems that now TBM servers are empty a lot. Is the Age of Bm at its end?

@MM
I agree with you on how players are losing skill. When I first started playing around a couple years ago, I was one of those snipers, and a lazy good for nothing. Now I try to fight someone one-on-one, although I am still a bit shaky at aiming while at point blank range. But at least I admit it eh? XD

Team Scrum is the preferred game of choice for several reasons:

1) Jerk factor - it is not tolerated. The occassional blow-up still happens (guilty as charged) but on the whole everyone is cool with everyone else. There are no "old-scores" to settle...this still exists it TBM. Those causing undue amounts of drama are dealt with swiftly.

2) People - related to the first post. People joke, have a good time. There is more a sense of this is "our" game and we want to preserve the fun. We are all friends to some degree...even if we yell at each other every now and then, it is easy to forgive.

3) Organization - The PSL flows pretty smoothly. Sure, you have lag and other issues every now and then, but problems/issues are usually handled in a mature manner. Go see the current PSL thread - some minor drama, but notice how everyone is focused on solving the problem instead of finger pointing or hating.

4) Variety - TBM...shooting and positioning. TS...both, and add to that driving, deception, passing, blocking...more roles to play, all of which are vital if your team is to win. Plus, there's no better feeling than making a great run with your arse en fuego or throwing a key block to free your man for a goal.

I think most of the best scrummers started off as BMers so it may be a good thing.

Yea I am gettin better at scrm as well %)

Saturday, March 04, 2006 at 7:21:27 PM

TS was the cure for me also. I love to play so much that I check the TS servers before going to the TBM servers.

It took a while for people to get to know me though. Every time I had the scrum they would call me leroy. Strange seeing that is not my name. :P

Still learning XD

Monday, March 06, 2006 at 8:26:06 PM

I think flea put this the best. Hey, I don't see anything wrong with shooting someone behind if they aren't watching their radar. But it is annoying if that is all someone does. Still, just let them do it! We all know who the real good players are.

PS: Someone told me in Dash Bash a few days ago to move around more. I'll try to practice doing that (except that I'm on vacation and dont have TT right now :'( ). If I can just be as good a mover as SK... ;)
