MacBook, eh? I wonder if the iBook line is done, or if it will get some of these high end goodies.
This thing looks sweet. Time to upgrade, perhaps, if TT will run on it...

I just looked at ZDNet's overview of Job's keynote- very impressive stuff coming out. New iMacs also available with the Core Duo. Makes me feel a few years behind...
It'll be interesting to see how fast Rosetta can run PPC apps (such as TT :)) on it.
My guess on Rosetta is that it will be similar in speed to what we have now, but I could be wrong... Maybe a boost for the "old" stuff will be there, too.
NAG NAG NAG! WANT!!!

Holy sh!t! It's ALREADY out? Can someone confirm this? Time for a little trip to the Apple store!!
Feel free to donate any unwanted macs to my classroom... I still have some tray loading iMacs you could replace for me :)
Its 840 pm. Do you know where your credit card is?
WHAT?? Only one USB port?????? XO

Lol
I want EIGHT
well
I guess you could get a hub
it worth the handsome design and superior OS ;)
I love my randylion
Its a damn good day in mac land...
The MacBook Pro is released
And...
Google Earth now available for the Mac
PS. Need I mentioned the built in iSight and the Front Row interface and Apple Remote as well as the (about friggin time) awesome MagSafe [Power] Connector.
GDI!!! I need a job!
MAX
The Apple Remote, front row and built in isight have been on the new model iMac G5 a few weeks before christmas.
I know that scytheman has the 17" 1.9 model which I also have and that someone else here, but I cant remember his name has the 2.1Ghz model with 21" screen
Had a great time at MacWorld today! http://supra.planetthinktanks2.com/archives/comm-thread.asp?thread=11496&forum=4
But Pedro? It is new to the laptop. Which I guess means alot to me because I use my laptop as a media center and I watch netflix DVDs on my powerbook every night. Also can you imagine being able to use iSight when traveling or in meetings.... Its hugely different. My excitement is about the addition of this very well known technology.
Anyhoo...
Looking forward to my Birthday

Those wizard-like engineers at Apple do amazing things.
There is some distortion with the photo's though...
Oh yes... Eat it PC luvers!
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

I didn't think Mac users could tell the difference.
4/1/1929 to 11/17/2006 Rest in Peace Bo. GO BLUE!!!

Pity the fools that just dropped $4,000 on a souped up G4-Powerbook......
... Wait....
I just bought a 17" G4 Powerbook less than a month ago....
Yup, the screen is a couple of inches bigger, but the machine is 4 to 5 times slower????
Pity Me.
It looks cool but $$$ not cheap if you want a cheap fast (P4) 3.1 Ghz look at bearbone systems at newegg . :)

@ HUGO
The Intel chips are faster and cheaper than the IBM ones, right?
It seems that "2" chips in one can be faster than one in some processes :)
It ain't no dog either way.
@ PREY
Keep in perspective what these duo cores are currently replacing. 1 G5 chip in the new iMac and a single G4 in the ?Book. I say ?Book because what is it replacing? It's performance is pretty much going to trounce the current Powerbook or iBook.
On price point I'd say it was replacing the Powerbook. Some important performance changes:
512K L2 cache vs 2MB
167MHz system bus vs 667MHZ
DDR2 SDRAM running at 333MHz vs 667MHZ
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 vs ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor
32 bit vs 64 is Persona non grata in the current notebook line. Apple would have to change the current case to something made by Samsonite to cool a G5.
Things may get really interesting later in the year when Intel brings Merom on line for the notebooks and Conroe for the desktops.
Perhaps Apple can even start convincing developers to start writing code that takes advantage of the extra bits :)
For me the best comparisons of the "old" iMac vs the new have been here, and here.
I know these tests are comparing the new iMacs and not the Powerbooks, but I don't think we want to really compare the G4 books anyway, the iMac G5 pretty much trounces it now.

You can do the hardware comparisons and debate 32 bit vs 64 bit all you want and but it doesn't mean too much right now. The question you should ask is : what software will I run?
If it's the standard Apple programs, the Intel Macs are much faster than the G5 iMacs. If it's anything else, the Intels show little if any performance improvements. This will continue to be the case as long as Rosetta is required to allow PowerPC programs to run on Intel.
Adobe has already stated it will not update to the Universal binary until their next scheduled software release. Other big software vendors may follow the same policy. It will probably be mid to late 2007 before all the software vendors complete any conversions to Universal binaries.
By then, all the new Macs will be released, including Quad ???Macs to replace the current PowerMacs. I wonder if they will change the case design on those models?
By the way, I saw AMD hopes to have Quad core chips available sometime in 2007. Does anyone know if Intel has announced a timetable for a similar product?

Early to mid 2007. It's also worth noting that the 32 bit Yonah is pin compatible with the 64 bit Merom. Remember these are the "mobile" line up of chips. For this year :)
Most of us Mac addicts aren't used to the idea of dealing with "Mobile" chips, AND Desktop chips, AND Enterprise chips. This is the "Road-map" Jobs was referring to. Don't expect to see a Whitfied Quad core single die in an early 2008 notebook. Unless you would be happy with large cooling fans and a long extension cord in a 20 pound enclosure. Lol

New engine, same soul
This is the first Mac notebook built upon the revolutionary new Intel Core Duo — which is actually two processors (up to 1.83GHz) engineered onto a single chip. It provides 2MB of Smart Cache, L2 cache that can be shared between both cores as needed. It delivers higher performance in 2D and 3D graphics, video editing, and music encoding. And the new engine is only part of the story. MacBook Pro has a frontside bus and memory that, at 667MHz, runs faster than any previous Mac notebook. It’s the first Mac notebook with PCI Express, a Serial ATA hard drive and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 for superfast graphics performance.
