Welcome to Capture the Base - Version 2.0!

 

If you have been around lately, I have been hosting CTB V 1.0, but now it's time for 2.0. When CTB 1 was first made, scripting was new to the modding scene, and now those scripts are outdated, and well, "ameteurish". ;)

Now, it's time for something better. Capture the Base 2.

 

The Rules

 

Rules are the same. CTB is an all-out hellfury of tanks in a frantic race to conquer the base. This is a simple concept; try to be the only one in the base. Do all that's necessary to exterminate the other players. Why? Cause the're scoring for being in there, and you sure don't want that. YOU want the most points, don't you?

 

The Bases

 

In CTB 1, bases were round, composed of some rocks or trees all shoved together. In CTB 2 however, the bases may be big, small, any size or shape at all. Maybe a large star, or a dome. CTB 2 will contain custom objects modelled by myself, and maybe even others who want to submit their work. For example, a level may be completely flat, but be in an arena-style setting.

 

The Weapons

 

I love the smell of a photonic laser eating away at a tank in the morning!

Weapons will consist of all the usuals, along with some special uber-weapons. I will try to balance them, so they are "uber" cause of how they look... I guess. Powerups will be scattered all over the level this time, rather than in a corner. So now, you can jump right in and play!

 

Submit your stuff!

 

You got stuff you want included, send it over. If I like it, I will include it in CTB 2, along with your name in lights. You will get credit where credit is due. Email your stuff to me at nathan_gibney@yahoo.ca . However, I cannot ensure that everyone's submissions will be included in the first release of CTB2.

July 15, 2004 - CTB2 progress still moving along....

Despite appearances, CTB2 is still in the works, however no release date has been set. All we can say is that it WILL get done, you can be sure of that! ;)

 


 

July 10, 2004 - New features confirmed; announced by Ishbuu IBotI

Here is the list of new features confirmed by Ishbuu, our master scripter: ;)

When you leave the base scoring stops properly
No more cheating when you die, scoring turns off when you die
Purchasing system: You can purchase uber powerups and some other special items using a chat based system
Chat based tank changing: work just like -z-'s chat changers, die and respawn as what you asked for

 


 

July 9, 2004 - CTB2 obtains new partnership!

It's been settled yesterday, I will now be working with Ishbuu and Michael on CTB2. Hopefully this will open the doors to higher quality gameplay. This will also ensure that CTB2 will get done. Ishbuu gets mad when my mind wanders. :)

Oh and by the way, Ive been having trouble with the DSO files, how can you properly edit them without TT crashing?

I forgot to include somthin in my previous message, What moddeling program do you use, I use MilkShape3D,

I find it very good with high poly, though it would never compair to 3ds and Maya, the modeling tools of the gods.

I am intrested in how you get the models you made youreself to register with the other players on TT, they dont have the model, so how will their TT get it properly, thanks for the feedback,

How do you guys dedicate a server on Macintosh?, because I don't like having to stay in there all the time when it's up. (Please use small words, I'm not big with TT vocabulary :) )

Also, when you dedicate a server, do you need to be connected to the internet, or is it kind of set up on one of the Think Tanks servers, and loaded there? 8o

Farenheit. I actually invented the first King of the Hill MOD. It was called Filberts Oasis way back when. Lool, it was fun, but MOD's have progressed further now adays for the likes of me.

I have stopped putting up 1.0, as I'm desperately trying to get this up and running. I may have an alpha release up soon, expect it to be buggier than hell though.

Here is what's new:

You will be able to leave the base, and scoring will stop properly.

No more cheaters in the base. If you die in the base, you will automaticly respawn.

Random powerups, all old ones plus some new special ones. They will all be well balanced however.

Ideal tank changer and powerup positions. I will not be using chatting tank changing, I feel that's unbalanced.

No DEMO access.

Some new sounds (yay)

Anti-battlemoding defences. If you aren't playing right, you won't be playing.

Purchasing system. Spend your points on uber powerups and better spawns. This will be typed in the chat box.

 

Those are all definate. Here are some I MAY add, but maybe not:

"Skill Points". For example, gain random points for achieving random feats, for example, shooting a certain window. These will randomize, so you can't get tons of points from them, but they are a neat new feature.

Warps. Enter a certain spot, and fly across the level. If someone is in your way, you can bid them farewell. :-)

Object deformation. (yay). Probably won't work, but I'll try.

 

Hope that gets you all a bit excited, I know I am. (oh god, look at all the work I have to do.)

Oh, I put it on hold for a while, but I'm now making new terrain to use in these mods, so I should be able to start the scripting very soon. It shouldn't be much longer, and we can only hope nothing will come up! ;)

Your job starts when it's done.

Just a reminder however, you don't get ANY of the files. You simply get to join a passworded server and you get to try out features and functions.
