Hehe. I don't want to say how people do it, cause then everyone will be, but what the hey.
They type something, and then type yours. Here is an example:
Mr. Prankguy: blah blah <------LEAVES SOME SPACES----------> FilbertMM(AU/SA): blahblah
You see, the spaces force it to make a new line, and he must of learned how many spaces to leave.

I was in a game a few days ago and someone started to talk in caht--with MY NAME. There was no other person in the room with my name, yet it was saying
FilbertMM(AU/SA):whatever he was making me say
And I was not writing it. I think it was prankmaster guy who did it!! HELP!!!
