Im not going to say much but if you have been playing TT for a year and 102 days you'd notice the downfall in the fun in the community, now that people have noticed that you can make armies just in a click-clack of the fingers, and that survival has been costantly taken down and its gets duller every time I play it, and just about every one is acting 30 years older than they realy are and are so dignified that they cant even say 'gg' at the end of the rounds.
To tell you the truth im just plain sick of it!
ThinkTanks becoming more of a chat room more then anything else.
Now I've said over my intentions and you guys just think it over if you want TT to become a great game or just a piece of your every day chat room.
Its too much for me to get to gether people who just want to have fun; now that every ones getting so darn stubborn.

Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 3:49:06 PM

Yea Im starting to get bored with TT also :( But I'm sure Ill be on fulll blast next weekend, but I do agree some people are so harsh, and some of the nicest people are turning to jerks.

Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 3:51:24 PM

What are you talking about a year and 102 days monkee|bot|? You joined on november 30 of last year???

That being said, I kinda have to agree. It seems like people used to like to play and play well. Now it's all about chatting and turning yourself into a ufo. I remember when you couldn't get on ctf and if you could every player was freakin' awesome...

Oh well, things change... Just gotta roll with it XD

Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 3:59:48 PM

My copy of the ignore script is being used much more frequently now :(... Too many stuck up snobs, who think they're better than everybody, but really suck (not to single-out anyone). I have to admit, there are more dumbnuts around, but I still think that TT is fun, and think that TT2 will make it even better. :) (campers and divers are quite a problem too..., but I can usually kill them before they do much damage ;) )

Same wish here: peace on Earth and TT/PTT.

ThinkTanks is more fun when you don't play it all the time. It's springtime and the sun is out. Go outside and play, it will make you feel better.

What are you guys talking about? I still enjoy those late nigh scrum games...

Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 4:14:33 PM

You said nobody says gg but almost every time I play I say gg and everyone else says gg

ThinkTanks becoming more of a chat room more then anything else.

I used to play TT for hours, and kill maybe 1 person. XD

Nothing much has changed, except you. When things get repeditive, we get bored. Human nature. But the good thing is we have other things to keep ourselves occupied with such as other games...or that place on the other side of these walls...I can't think of what it is called at the moment though...

Back in the island hoping days, I played very very few actual games, even fewer as mods began to develop. Slowly but surely the first generation dwindeled(sp?) away, and now the second generation seems to be heading that way as well. Others will come, and play, and the process will start all over again.

I can't comment on other people's experience, but I have noticed that the people in games at different times of day are different. I see much more annoying behavior around 4PM Eastern time than I do at 8 or 9PM Pacific. I think it depends on the people playing at the time. Maybe it correlates with when schoolkids are out, but I don't think it's that simple. Lots of kids are fine to play and good sports.

I do think the late night crowd is stronger, though...

I agree. It has a lot to do with time of day.
I don't even bother to play scrum in the afternoon (EDT) anymore. Too much weirdness.
The best time for TS is "Late Night with Rx". (sounds like a TV show)

As far as other games go, I would have to agree with Michael® it seems to cycle.
I've been noticing fewer Mods as of late too. Not like it was in the hey day with 4-5 different Mods up all the time.

Personally I think thats not true at all.
We have just made the expansion pack. I have 11 mods that I believe are as good as, or better than most of the mods out there. But for some reason it appears that many of the vets are resisting installing the expansion pack. Most of the players on RX's server have never been in mine. When people like me, Nuts, Dash, and Reagent are in my server. All of the otherwise RX server players try to get in mine. Of course they all bail when they realize they have to download file because they didn't install the Expansion Pack. CB, Rooster, Wiz, and I are all modding with these great textures and elements. Yet people complain there's nowhere to play, and the game is boring.

I think it's just lack of effort. The maps and excitement are here, where are the people?

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 7:37:20 AM

Well, you could add this to your dash codes....

In the dash Codes.cs, put the following above the function 'listBanned':

function PreloadName(%sender,%target_nm)
{
if(!ClientIsAdmin(%sender,"/pre command failed you are not admin"))
return;
%match = matchClientName(%target_nm);
%client = firstword(%match);
%status_msg = restWords(%match);
If(%client == -1)
{
schedule(1000,false,"CommandToClient", %sender,'CenterPrint', %status_msg,4,3);
return;
}
If(isobject(%client))
{
%nm = %client.nameBase;
schedule(1000,false,"bottomprintall", %nm SPC $pref::Server::PreloadAnnounce,4);
%client.delete($pref::Server::PreloadMessage);
return;
}
else
{
schedule(1000,false,"CommandToClient", %sender,'BottomPrint', "PRELOAD FAILED",4,3);
}
}

And put this with the rest of them in Codes.cs:

else if (%code $="/pre" | %code $= "/preload" )
call("PreloadName",%sender,%a2);

And put this at the bottom of your dash Prefs.cs:

// Predownload Message players in the server will see
$pref::Server::PreloadAnnounce = "Has been told to Predownload";
// Predownload Message the client being told to predownload will see
$pref::Server::PreloadMessage = "Please predownload the neccesary files @ URL OF PREDOWNLOAD PACK HERE";

So now, whenever you see someone pre-downloading (It's hard to tell sometimes though), just type /pre PLAYER NAME and they will be kicked, but the kick message will have the url for predownloading in it!

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 7:47:12 AM

If(%client == -1)
{
schedule(1000,false,"CommandToClient", %sender,'CenterPrint', %status_msg,4,3);
return;
}

If(isobject(%client))

Both of those if statements need to be in lowercase.

Racer Great This is wonderful!

Napalm's mods are great. They are full of interesting elements, and I've had a great time playing them. I agree that people need to take the time to predownload. It's well worth it . The only thing those great maps need are players.

Run, don't walk, to get the expansion pack! Then you don't have to wait for the download ;)

Well, I think the game is still a trip and following the advice of 56k, a break from the game when it becomes stale is a good thing. At many times in life we experience plateaus, and you can do one of two things during these plateaus, you can work harder to become better, or you can take a break. In this instance, when the game has lost its flavor, it's always best to take a break.

It also gives you a chance to do other things, but also to let your skills and talents at the game get some much needed rest. I also find that it correlates well with how you progress physically. When I lift, I find that after about 3 months, that I hit a plateau, I don't experience any gains. But if I take a little break, or change my routine, that I come back with a renewed vigor for working out, and that the gains return.

So my unsolicited advice is to take some time off. Your skills will take a little hit, but not much, you'll come back feeling renewed and refreshed and ready to play on!! It's a one step back, two steps forward experience. Remember, the game doesn't change much, it's you that has to experience the change.

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 9:20:38 AM

I've predownloaded 3 times, and still hit maps that I have to wait for as they add new ones. I've gotten to the point I'd rather just wait it out for that one map than quit and go download the same maps I've already downloaded the last 3 times just to get the one new one.

And, yes, the game is less fun for me now too. More punks, less players. Of course, I can't usually play in those west coast late night games, as they're two hours behind me, so it's 1-2am for me. :'(

So you have that problem too, TMO?

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 12:35:33 PM
OM

Yeah, I've had the same problem as TMO. On a few occasions I've downloaded the latest and greatest mod pack, only to jump into a server later that day and end up waiting for the downloaded map or texture or whatever anyway.
My suggestion to the modders is to give it a rest and let the current plethora of modded maps sink in with everyone. With the frenzied pace of new or updated maps coming out, it gets tiring to have to keep pre-downloading files every week, give or take. Just my 2¢.

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 12:52:26 PM

@ Master TMO
@ OM

The obvious question would be are you talking about Mod pack or Expansion pack?

The mod pack contains no textures or objects only terrain files.
The expansion pack contains all of the additional objects and the terrains up to a point. Mach 15th I believe.

I'm not aware of anyone at this point, using anything outside of the expansion pack. So if the expansion pack was in deed installed correctly you should not have any issues getting into my mods at all. This is factual. I have verified this many times, Mac, Linux and Windows.

I don't mind waiting the 5 minutes for a new terrain either. You can't always get to everyone’s new terrains so the terrain download is not so bad. I have intentionally frozen the expansion pack to try to keep the stability at a high level. Roo just sent me an email saying he wants to add a bunch of skies but I think this will only add confusion to people that have already installed the "packs."

In almost every post I leave me IM and address for people to contact me if they have any issues. I have already walked many people through installing this that were otherwise uncomfortable doing so. I still offer assistance to those having issues. I have even offered services to people who have had issues with the mission files in attempts to keep the trouble away form players. I have fixed mission files for Crapblaster, Surnami, Wiz as well as many of my own gone south. LOL
I'm trying to catch Pharm this week to give him a hand as well. This takes but a minute or two to complete.

Personally I love all of the different places people create for all of us to play in. It's very exciting when you just drop in form the sky to a place that you have never been before. Learning those maps is a great deal of fun. There are also different approaches to other people’s mods depending on where pads and goals are placed. For me it's really interesting, playing in new mods I mean.

Again I will be on again tonight if anyone wants help.

The problem with TT is the players, they cheat, they are disrespectful, they gang up on people, they attack people who are afk, and thats the problem with TT. I remember when I was just but a DEMO this wonderful person his name was something like tai or rai I'm not sure it was a long time ago but I could just run up to him and he wouldn't shoot me and we would have our own lil' alliance I respected him. I think everyone here needs to respect their fellow Tankers wether its a 5 year old kid to an old geezer this world will not progress without the cooperation of everyone. Think of all the things that you have done for this world from the smallest thing of making someone smile to something like helping out at a soup kitchen or maybe invent a cure for cancer. I'm not as respectable as I use to be on this game, I've been scarred by those who have insulted me and disgraced me, but I will recover and be a better person if everyone else stops hurting other people.

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 1:17:57 PM

I agree. I was helping out someone last night who seemed to be merely watching as I played Scrum. They would kind of hang near the goal but get out of the way as I came in with the scrum. Almost as if he/she was learning the game. So rather that just keep scoring I would bring back the scrum to them and let them score. I have no idea the age of this person as they did not chat. I was just trying to get them in the game. Show some goodwill. Pyronin PBx, your right we need to bring that back to the game. A little less selfesh, myself included. Too wrapped up in trying to be a great player. Thanks for pointing that out, even if it wasn't directed at me. Maybe it should have been.

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 1:29:51 PM

@ Napalm - I did not mean to imply that there were no Mods. Just that there were fewer new Mods.
When ever I am on I see the same regular Mod servers up, like: Rooster, Naps, Repent, etc..
Albeit they are awesome scrum Mods unfortunately I have yet yo play with anything but bots on yours or Roosters. Bad timing I guess.

But, that is not really the point.

Being involved with the Modding Resource and fielding Modding questions for the last year or so I would expect to see more new Mods right after a flurry of questions from new Modders. That is where I see the most fluctuation which is only reinforce by the lack of new Mods on the server list.

When do you guys have games?

@Racer - I want to l put that in the MR if that is ok

Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 1:30:48 PM

@ MAX-CR

I certainly wasn't going on the defense, or attacking you. I was really taking advantage of of an oppertunity to vent a little bit. I thought people would flock to the new mods because they are so different than the stuff that's out there. Kind of like the mods you have had up in the past. If I had been playing then, I would have been most certainly in your server instead of some of these others. Personally I like to keep the tanks properties stock and just make nice envrionments. I agree there aern't enough mod servers up. But I think that's just a communication issue.
We have a whole host of people who would host servers.
Maybe we just need to help the people just getting into modding a bit. I know I had a heck of a time getting TGE to work on my Mac the first time. I tried everyones suggestions. I had it working no prob on my windows box but couldn't get the syntax right. Finally I did it. Haven't modded on my PC since.
I would love to creat more mods but stopped because nobday has played the one I have now.

Maybe we need to put a little ore focus on this subject.

BTW: thanks for the help you provided with the emitters!

GA, oif you've got a beef with Nap, MAKE A THREAD FOR IT. This is EXACTLY why THIS THREAD was posted- because people are being IDIOTS AROUND HERE!

Friday, April 15, 2005 at 4:43:10 AM

Been playing about 2 years and enjoy this game in a different manner. The Team Scrumming and BattleModing skills have evolved a lot. Passing is now the de facto standard (it used to be novelty, and everyone was clumsy at it), shooters are sharp as hell, driving is just DerbyRacing 3000 - it's really hard to stop a good driver! Skills are everywhere, and every game is challenging, and going either way.

We overplayed the 4 LushMaps, went with Azazel's Field of Screams where we played all 4 frantic maps to death, and finally everyone was doing the map Rotaion so we ended up getting pro in Spooky too. Just as we were all sickening from those 12 original maps, tons of new Mods and maps came around, and some awesome maps have totally refreshed the gameplay. Now we play on so many maps that I don't bother counting them.

Everyone plays better. There are idiots everywhere around, and we're all idiots for someone else at one point, but since I play mostly in private servers I don't care for them - they get da boot + ignore script.

Much has to do with Rx's server, the new 'Field Of Screams' - its laggynosity is sometimes bad, but the map rotation and the crowd is great.

So yes I enjoy it still. It's always a pleasure to log-in after my day is done, get some Sheep Special Nutrients©, and play 2-3-4-5 games. It's a good end to a good day when I can play some TT late niterz. :)

I would like to say that the respect level in ThinkTanks is heading south. The DEMO's can't even enjoy the game when these punks come to the server saying "LOL, it's a pathetic DEMO!" Well heres a thought, without these DEMO's there won't be any TT. BraveTree would just go bankrupt.

I treat everybody in ThinkTanks the same as I like to be treated by them, but Chong and DESTROYER just don't get the meaning of respect in there thick skull.

TT is a very enjoyable game! I don't get why people just chat, I mean TT is not a chat room where you can talk about your dog or your doctor, or etc. If you like a chat room go to the many sites that provide chat room.

Also that impostering is very harsh. I think the people that do that only bought the game just to ruin it for somebody else.

Zebo's got a good point. I've only been playing for about a year (including a long run as a demo), but I think that if I were a raw newbie, and I was getting trashed just for being a demo, I never would have bought the full version.

I don't remember names, but there were a few players who greeted me, gave me tips, taught me how to play. They were encouraging. I learned that some players are trolls, but it used to be fewer. Now I see people ganging up on demos who haven't done anything wrong.(some who don't yet know all the ropes) Those demos who are just twits (ruining the game for kicks) don't need lessons, they know exactly what they are doing...

If we want TT to stay fun, we need to let new people enjoy it, too. Give them some tips, some encouragement. Help them get so they have a good time, then let that cycle go to them. They can buy the game, get to be stronger players, help the new demos, and round we go.

Maybe being a coach or mentor to newbies is a route to keeping it interesting.

Ive played for a while (I think) now, and its true that it got sorta boring...

Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 9:06:25 AM

Hey Destroyer is a good guy I myself thought he was a selfish jerk at one time but then I got to know him he is actually a cool guy I know he can be a jerk at times just give him time and respect if you want respect you must first give it and if you think yelling at someone saying all sorts of crap about them or someone else thats not going to get you anywhere. I am sorry for this but it is the truth if you have a problem with someone deal with it in a non-violent way just get with the guy and talk to him tell him/her with your problem and try to fix it.

Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 9:17:35 AM

Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 10:56:49 AM

Yeah dude TT has gotten gay now man.... Way too many noobs. It was cool back in the day (lol) when nowbody knew modding for chit , people came out with a script or 2 and everyone was like "whoa! That kicks ass! Lets get fucked up!" yep tsk tsk.. This reply shall get edited... But still I think anyone who knows me will know what I said

Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 7:06:42 PM

I started playing again just to see how it got mesed up, as you guys say it did. The people I met were commonly polite! Maybe its cuase I get on when they're moms make em goto bed. And whats wrong with noobs? You teach em the game, and they're not noobs anymore!! Then they might follow what you did for them!

Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 2:25:43 AM

What I think is that there aren't too many noobs there are just too many good players. I was a demo for almost 8 months until I got TT I got most of my training as a demo I was in a clan I was the clan leaders right hand man I could take on almost anyone who was or wasn't a demo. Most of my traning was alone as a demo I had to learn everything on my own but now I have my own style in a way and I don't think anyone had anything much like it. But besides that be friendly to your fellow tanker you never know who they are or what they'll do.
