Man... That has to be scary for the kids. How wierd would it be to get in the news for developing hair in wierd places.

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Wow really interesting article focusing on the immediate effect of chemicals on growing children. Tx!

Indeed we're producing gazillions of tons of chemicals that are not biodegradable, leeching into the eco-systems and recycled in our driking water and food. It's been pointed out as a contributor, for example, to the large sterility problems in England. The link to early puberty has also been exposed before, but now there's direct proof, while it usually is indirect contamination that is mentioned.

What I like about your article is how it shows that direct exposures to some chemicals (hormones) have very strong second-hand effects - on kids! Thank you.

Ah! Life in the 21st Century!

Maybe time we stop raising animals for meat in artificial environments, filled with artificial stimulants, getting quantity quickly.

Nobody ever noticed, that happy meat from happy animals tastes better?

Fertiliser, pesticide, hormone culture is probably a little ingrained now, hard to break free from...

Its from all the growth hormones that are in the animal products we eat.

Beef, pork, chicken, dairy, you name it and it has growth hormones.

^^ Is this the way you grew your TT skills? :o

Heh seems those who did think this is disgusting, did not read more than one paragraph. :)

Like Hugo and Bolo said, this is caused due to the fact of hormones in meats these days...if kids have puberty at very young ages, they may have many problems as they grow older...

I bet it can screw you to become a teenager at 7 years old... But then, would it? In other times, other places, life expectancy was 25-30-40 years old, and at 7... You were a man/woman! It wasn't uncommon in the West to marry girls at 12, 10... Wasn't uncommon to have kids at 16 - and then several of kids... Bang bang bang... 'Adolescence' stretching to 25 is somehow new - a 20th century 'luxury' if you will; for most of Humanity' record life was short and brutal. In the animal world, one becomes adult (i.e. Full-on ready to procreate) really fast too!
So maybe this new evolutionary phase of the XXII century will see us grow 'adult' bodies at 10, and live to be 200 years old! Brave New World

"Clifford Bloch of the University of Colorado School of Medicine presented several cases of young men who had developed marked breast enlargement from using shampoos containing lavender and tea tree oils, which are widely used essential oil additives that present no problem for adults."

... Poor 44...

Did he mention the waffle applicator ?

Monday, October 23, 2006 at 10:02:51 AM

^ any brand name on that? I think Rabina may be interested. ;) ;)

OK, seriously, do we really need more chemicals in our food? I figured this was why girls were forming earlier and earlier, thanks in part of hormones in chickens to enhance breast growth. What 10yo needs a set of knockers? Its difficult enough for the teens to deal with them, let alone little children. I'd like to see "natural" foods to become the norm and get away for all this enhanced and preserved crap we eat today. I'm sure we'd all feel a whole lot better, weigh less in general and be in better health too.

I just pulled up the stuff in a normal snack I see a lot of kids eating:

Nice ingredient list for only cheese flavored corn. I buy one that tastes excatly the same, if not better than that, which is organic and only has corn flour, rice flour, salt, cheese, butter, whey, and sunflower oil.

It's sad to see how much crap is in food now. My family has been shopping at Whole Foods for our main groceries for years and the stuff just tastes better. Normal hamburgers taste flat compared to the farm rasied and organically fed stuff they have at whole foods. Downside is, it's a little bit more expensive.
