Welcome to Nathan's Mod Reviews! Here, I will show off what's not, and what's not. What you should check out, and what you shouldn't.
Today's Feature: Repent's Mountain Fortresses :: By Repent
Upon entering this mod, I was bombarded by a flurry of large, colorful projectiles raining down from the hills. After stumbling out of the firefight, I found a base on the top of a hill, and the sniping fun began.
A firefight can sure be a surprising thing when entering a mod.
This mod is composed of the basic medulla mesa terrain, with the fog stripped out and several bases placed on top of hills throught the level. The main island and trench are covered in powerups, usually intrusive, but strategic in this mod. Your tank is slightly faster to make up for the large distance you will need to cover.
Once you are in a base, you will find yourself under attack from other hills, and shooting back. While on the ground, the shots whizzing by can be a scary feeling, almost as if you are part of something larger.
Hill to hill sniping is great fun that never gets tiring.
Ground combat can also be fun, chasing after another player while shooting wacky powerups and navagating the tricky terrain.
In hot persuit of another player through the hills and valleys
But still, most of the battles will take place on top of the hill, as you try to capture someone else's base, wether it is a strategic position, or maybe you are just out of powerups.
The powerups all have green emitters, that give a futuristic touch to the mod. One powerup is a rapid-fire blast of green, perfect for sniping. Another is the "flamer" powerup, allowing you to shoot large fireballs across the ground and lob them into bases. The last powerup allows you to shoot ufo's which give off a green ooze, and explode on impact. Perfect for taking out attackers of your base.
A battle on the hills with wacky powerups
Mod Rating and Comments:
Terrain Use - The terrain is used in a great way here, integrating the tall hills as strategic battle pointsl 9/10
Object Placement - Rocks and trees are seamlessely integrated into good looking bases atop the hills. 7/10
Powerups - Although tacky, the powerups are well used and integrated. 7/10
Replayability - This mod's sniping fun will definately have you coming back for more. 10/10
Lag - Hoo! This mod can get very laggy, especially at around 7 - 9 people. Low frame rates are commoners here. 5/10
Remember, don't let the lag effect the overall. Because not everyone can afford, or are available to faster internet, the lag rating is not incorperated into the overall rating.
Overall - This mod is a great mod that makes great use of terrain, powerups, and objects. You will definately be addicted when playing this, and you may never want to leave. Alot of thought and creativity were put into this mod. Repent's Mountain Fortresses gets an ultimate mod rating of 8.9 out of 10 !
