The forums are just a day old and there are still some kinks to be worked out. Post the issues you find in this thread so we'll have a nice central location for all the issues you find :)

I found an issue with smiley’s, they only work if they have a trailing space. If the character trailing the smiley is an end of line character you just see the text version of the smiley. (I put a space after the smily above, I will not after this one...) :o

(oh interesting, when clicking on the :o face button, it automatically inserts a space following the smiley. I guess you just need to be careful to not delete it.

In posting that thread, I origionally had ' The Official '' I found a bug'' thread' as the title. But the double quotes ( '' ) seem to have broken the insert statement. I ended up using two single quotes instead.

Hmm, seems to be having troubles with double quotes in the message body as well, I ended up converting all my double quotes to 2 single quotes side by side to make the post readable.

If you want, you can delete this POST. I just want to test some features. Hope you don't mind. Maybe I'll find a bug.

I am quoting an imaginary person!

OK. URL insert doesn't work. I type in the URL and nothing shows.

Same with EMAIL address.

Same with image

Bold works, but makes the tags appear a ways down.

Italic works, and makes the tags appear where the cursor is.

Nice. Same with underline.

Superscript works fine.

And so does subscript.

Horizontal line appears a ways down.

I won't test the smileys. I have done enough spamming. :) <---- You are right. Will only appear with a space after.

Now little <p> tags are appearing.

When I tried to change the capitalization of my name from "56k Lag man" to "56k Lag Man" it wouldn't let me. I assume it did a case insentive compare and figured no change had been made, so the change didn't stick. I had to delete the "m" and submit it, then add the capital "M" back in and re-submit.... Yeah, that'll be high on the to-do list.

When I go into a forum section there wil be anywhere between 3 and ten of the same thread. Then when I click on one and go back there is only one. So I have to click on at least one of every post so that there will only be one...do you get me?

Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 2:04:18 PM

Some of the threads appear to be duplicated.... Like 2-5 times!

Yeah, we are trying to add support so you can see what threads have new messages in them. Unfortunalty there seems to be a bug in the initial condition that causes it to go haywire when you first viewa forum. -z- is currently getting some much needed Z's. I'm sure he'll look into in as soon as he's up. In the mean time, visiting one of each thread and refreshing the page seems to help.

Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 3:15:26 PM

Could we also get a time of last post in the post lists?

Also, if I want a BR type tag in my post what do I do? Just hitting a return makes a new P, and sometimes you don't want the gap that comes with that...

Also, the links on the left are still screwed up in IE 5.00. (The dot in front of the text, as in the screen shot I sent a while back.)

Woot, the little red docs are telling me I've read all these posts. :) (Would still like to see a date/time stamp though.)

As an actual time stamp? I found reading them too troublesome compared to simply looking at the 'a new post has been made' icon.

What about a time since the last post? Ie. "Topic Title" "created by user" "last post made 4 hours 23 minutes ago" "last post by user" "number of comments"

Minutes aren't necessary. Maybe "Last Post: 12 hours ago (Smarch 45th )"

On the main forums page, the new posts icons always suggest there are no new posts in the categories. Should they be registering if there are unread posts in the individual sections?

The main forum page is a list of forums, each forum contains threads. Currently the query that checks for "new posts" only checks for new posts in threads. In order to propigate that up to the main forum page, another query would have to be written. This is just one of the work items on the block.

However, in the mean time, feel free to use this Recent Posts page.

Recent posts is where it's at.

Should skin threads be in the MOD forums? Or are they not exactly mods...

I was wondering the same thing and think perhaps there should be a skins forum as well as a mods forum. All in favour say 'aye'

Okay here's an obscure one for ya -z-. In Internet Explorer 6 (PC) if you middle click-drag inside the light green commentbox, you don't get the fast scrolling arrow things. If you middle click-drag outside the comment box, you properly get the 'get to the bottom of the thread fast' feature.

This doesn't happen in ie 5. Or is it just my computer?

Update: Oh, it's caused by "overflow: auto;" heh... Imagine that...

Egads. Upgrade your Mozilla. Firebird 0.7 seems to handle these pages just fine....

Hmmm, I noticed something that is most likely a "feature" of the forums, but can at times look a little odd. I can safely say that this is not a specific operating system or browser bug, since I've seen it in many members posts.

What I'm talking about is the auto capitalization that occurs after certain punctuation marks. For example, if I type... This, the word "this" becomes capitalized, even though I was doing the dot-dot-dot for pause emphasis. I realize this is picking nits, but sometimes it throws me off a bit when reading a post. I can't always immediately tell if someone was starting a new thought, or continuing one.

I found one way to stop this from happening though. You need to use the actual ellipsis (that's what it's called) keyboard shortcut. I'm not sure what this is on a PC, but on a Mac, it's Option - semi-colon, (might be the same on Windows) like this… and when you start typing again, no cap for the 1st letter.

Not sure if anyone even cares about this at all, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Heh good point OM, and I'll change the code to ignore auto capitalisation after a series of...'s.

Bug: in IE 5 pc, the add comment form box extends past the edge of the right of the screen.

Solution: Add a div around the table: <div style="width:100%"> -- Table Stuff -- </div>

:)

Edit: Also applies to IE 5.5......

In the 3 on 3 thread, sometimes the text of posts disappears.... When scrolling back to it, sometimes it reappears... But never all of it....

Everything seems to be peachy now, excpept for the disappearing text on the 3 on 3 scrum page. I find I can get around this bug by scrolling down the page before it completely loads.

I'm begining to fear that -z- has been kidnapped by aliens.

Minor bug: If you put tags (like bold) around a URL, it doesn't auto link.

Like so: http://supra.planetthinktanks2.com/archives/comm-recentposts.asp

Hehe... And that IE 5 bug is still open.. XD

(Oh, and I think it's more like -z- has been kidnapped by capitalists. Well probably alien capitalists...)
