Yes decided to dabble into the weird and wonderful world of Linux but am having a problem with installing correct display driver.

I am running AMD FX60 and Nvidia 7900 GTX (have 2 in SLI configuration for windows and if possible would be great to get SLi running on Unbuntu)

I have downloaded and installed Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS (Dapper Drake) using the 64-bit PC (AMD64) version without any problem.

Then searched for driver for the Nvidia cards and seemed to find this as the correct one

But when I tried to installed it using sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8756-pkg2.run I get an error saying installer must be run as root. I dont know what this means any ideas?

Also with this version when I try to install TT I get the message "This installation does not support glibc.2.0 on linux / unknown (tried to run setup)"

Before I did the above I installed Unbuntu from the disk I recieved which was version 6.06 LTS and I installed TT without any problems, however when I launched the game it was so slow like the fps was 2 or 3. So I used easy unbuntu to install the Nvidia driver but then TT would not launch saying that there was no openGL support. So again tracked down this driver but could not install it.

So my questions are which version of Unbuntu should I use?
How do I install these drivers?

GG says TT for Linux needs:
Pentium-MMX compatible CPU 400 MHz, 128 MB RAM
NVIDIA TNT2 or better 3D Graphics Accelerator.
Sound card
Kernel 2.4 or newer
glibc 2.2 or newer
XFree86 4.0 or newer with OpenGL hardware acceleration.

How can I check what I have installed for glibc?
Are the Drivers I have found the correct ones?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Anytime..........
At the Ubuntu forums in support theres a whole section devoted to 64bit users
It includes workarounds for WINE - Mplayer w/wm32 codecs and more
Basicallly those apps must run in a 32 bit shell to operate
Most informative reading for sure
enjoy.............

Dazzle
I have 64 as well. In linux for that machine I normally get the 32 bit because of the lib problems. Plus most games and such arn't geared for it anyway. What I have done in the past to get it to at least serve TT is get TT running using the 32 bit make a copy on a cd and then just copy it over to the 64 bit.

Not sure about the sli though, do a google search.

Oh thats easy. Copy an file from on of the dedicated server folders, like cycle.sh. Place /home/dazzle/ThinkTanks. Edit your linux dedicated file to look like this:

# configuration parameters
USE_XTERM=false # start server in an xterm
USE_DSLEEP=false # start server with -dsleep argument
USE_NOHOMDIR=true # start server with the -nohomedir argument
USE_RESPAWN=false # restart server if it dies, with 10 second

Copy the the prefs.cs folder from /home/dazzle/.bravetree/thinktanks/game/server to /home/dazzle/ThinkTanks/game/server (edit to your liking). The./bravetree is a hidden folder in home folder, just change the settings to show hidden files. Then open up a terminal in your /home/dazzle/folder type sh cycle.sh.

^ Thanks will be having a go at that today :S

One thing though is that I am having trouble booting unbuntu, one of the machines (the one I use for hosting) loads up every time no problems, but the AMD Sli machine gets stuck at loading essential drivers nearly everytime and only boots properly about once in every 25 attempts!! And on a few occasions have just given up and used windows :[ Any thoughts?

Been awhile since I have been on Ubuntu. May need open some ports in the firewall if you have one installed within.

Try "nohotplug" when booting, may help.

I was just lazy because it wasnt my main server
